"social security should show it I believe, a few years ago they sent me a form showing deductions all the way back to 1953 when I was working as a kennel boy. It showed the yearly deductions I think until I turned 65"

"I too was on it  when it left Long Beach in February 61 on my way to Bargers Point Hawii.  Rode it to Pearl Harbor.  Didn't know aat the time it was on it's way to decomissioning."

USS Plumas County LST-1083

USS Plumas County (LST-1083) was an LST-542-class tank landing ship in the United States Navy. Unlike many of her class, which received only numbers and were disposed of after World War II, she survived long enough to be named. On 1 July 1955, all LSTs still in commission were named for US counties or parishes; LST-1083 was given the name Plumas County, after Plumas County, California.See More

"We were part of the decommissioning crew.  Left Long Beach I believe in Feb. 61 and had to make 2 trips to Subic Bay Before we Decommissioned her.  I wasn't on her very long but she was the favorite of the 3 ships I served on"

Where were you or your family stationed?
I enlisted in Long Beach Ca Aug 14 1958, my first ship after BC was the USS Merrick AKA 97 home ported in long Beach Ca. My 2nd ship was the USS Plumas County also homeported in Long Beach Ca aboard her from Feb 1961 to Aug. 1961, decommisioned in Sasebo Japan Aug 221961. spen the final 11 months aboard CVA 43 USS Coral Sea.
I probably would have made a career if I could have got off of her
