Boot Camp
Did my training at camp Moffett & I remember how the guys from Dewey had clean boots, where our boots were always dusty.I also remember one of our instructors would always describe to us in great detail the great sex he had the night before. For 13 weeks he constantly broke our balls, but still it was a lot of fun & met some great guys.

You guys have MUCH better memories than I do.. I can barely remember arriving at Great Lakes in July 1962 after a train ride from Minneapolis. The only thing that stands clear in my mind of that day was echoes of "You'll be sorry!" coming from various Companies marching here & there.
Though I eventually got to Camp Moffett, I believe my actual 'check-in' was at camp Barry. After Barry, I was in both Camps Moffett and Dewey but I can't recall the order. I was in the 2nd camp for about a week and moved to the 3rd one after being selected for the Drum & Bugle (Drunk & Stumble) Corps.
I still have my copy of 'The Keel'. I'll have to dig it out later and see what other memories it brings up.
Entered Camp Moffat October 1st 1969. Instantly convinced myself that I had made the worst mistake of my young life by joining the Navy. Later went on to serve with some really great people on board the USS Dahlgren DLG-12 and the USS Richmond K Turner DLG/CG-20
Went thru training in 1966 CO.584 Sure was a wakeup call.
well I think I got you all beat I got to Moffat in Nov 1958 we got there and it was so cold the snow was frozen on top I felt sorry for the guys from Florida in shirt sleeves we all could not wait for our Pea Coats
Reported in on Jan 16, 1987, Company 025, Left for Bt. A School Main Side in March of '87 and Graudated A School in June '87. First Duty Station was SIMA-NRMF Long Beach, Ca.
I flew from New York to Chicago in 1958 force down in Cleveland ice on wings got to Chicago middle of night the snow but deep got to Moffat cold tired and hungry felt sorry for the guys from Florida in shirt sleeves
We stayed in the old WWII barracks the first couple of nights. I remember that freezing cold wind blowing in through broken window panes!
I seemed blessing to move to the new barracks through that tunnel!
I see photos now off beautiful tree lined brick buildings at both camp. When I was there, Moffet barracks were old wooden things, almost barns!
The main barracks at Porter were plan concrete buildings three stories high. No warm looking brick buildings.
They were square with a courtyard in the center for freezing, oops I mean drying, clothes. There were also "hot rooms" somewhere inside, but I think we were only allowed to use them as a earned privilege.
Remember washing clothes in the concrete troughs? And ironing clothes with you soap box?
Arrived at Camp Moffat at 0200 on March 16th 1960 and 9 years later went back there 7 times to pick up a new company of recruits, Never thought i would return but my detailer must have had it in for me .But looking back he did a favor for me pushing boots helped me make CPO
Walked into Camp Moffat in 1979, Company 227.. Trainned with some Great Guy's..
