I think I worked for you as a mess cook on the APL 30. I loaded supplies from the dock and later on to the boats that went up river. I also had to paint the forward storage compartment where the dry goods were stored. I enjoyed the cold storage locker when I had to deal with them. I liked the job (not so much the painting) since I had very little dealings with the mess cooks who served and cleaned for the crew. I also remember you played checkers with someone when you were not busy.
Shipmates were great the cruise was good until one of the vaps went out. I'm glad I'm a shellback now but I hated the cold with a passion. I would sleep in the hanger just so I didn't have to go outside to go below decks. Just thinking about it now sends shivers through me.
I hated cold weather when I was a kid and it is even worse now. Besides, I had just spent a couple of years stationed in Hawaii and was spoiled. I'm glad you had a good cruise though.
LOL haven't seen a Lucky Lager in years!
