Michael - I do actually remember you, I think. I was actually assigned to Niagara Falls directly out of basic in Sep of 66. I served on the pecom detail, and waseventually made the deck dept yeoman, since I knew how to type. I moved up to ship's office when I made third class, and was the leading petty officer in the ship's office making YN2 upon arrival in Subic Bay on our maiden deployment. We were supposed to have a chief, but he missed ship's movement as he was hospitalized. I was transferred to Washington, DC at the end of the first deployment, and finished my enlistment with the DIA in the Pentagon. I taught High School English in Minnesota for 31 years and retired in 2005. I currently spend most of my time doing some insurance work, serving as VFW commander, and Mayor of my hometown of Westbrook, MN. My wife and I spend the better party of Jan and Feb in Oceanside at North Coast Village for the past few years. Stop down and visit some time. e-mail is phelpsdennisr@gmail.com. Cell is 507-227-2799.
Michael I also was on board the Falls during the precom detail. At the time I was a SK1. I stayed on board till 1972. Out of my 20 years in the Navy the best sea duty was. the Falls.
