    G'day James

                      You wouldn't recognize me now as I was 17 in Boot Camp. I looked into the RTC book from boot camp to look you up. If you don't have a copy, I can email (PDF file) you the guys in the company. Company 402 shipmates Hal Varner, Carlos Sevilla (retired as a BM1) after 20 years, Richard Minsberg, and myself all got assigned to the USS Ticondergoga CVA-14. I vaguely remember you being gone for some flu shot problem while in Boot Camp. I met the guide-on bearer we had (short muscular guy) in 73 and I thought he lost a leg in Vietnam but was then a civilian in San Diego. I had a guy named Montoya (name something like that) behind me in formation who disappeared at week 10 when the police came to take him away (I met him in 81 in San Diego). I remember CO 401 getting clobbered by that car near the bridge that went to the chow hall.   I did only one run around the grinder with my rifle above my head - forgot why. At Camp Elliot for weapons training, being the youngest recruit, I got to shoot the 50 caliber - almost weighed as much as me back then.
      
     I became an RD (now OS) and was on the Tico from 66-68 (2 Cruises). I was then assigned in-country to Naval Support Activity Danang working harbor security on  PBR's but got reassigned within a month to USS Repose.in the harbor because I got stung by a bunch of invisible jelly fish with a severe reaction. We went swimming a lot while on patrol.
    After almost a year on the Repose, I was re-assigned to the USS Arlington AGMR-2 in 69 and ended up decommissioning her in Long Beach. That was considered in-country duty like the Repose and I see you were assigned to the Annapolis also in country duty. I remember see the Annapolis when one relieved the other in the Gulf of Tonkin.Yes, we also did a few of the Apollo missions and was at Midway for Pres Nixon and Prime Miinisters Thieu's meeting on Vietnam. 
     
    I re-enlisted and stayed in on 8 more ships until I retired as an LDO LCDR out of COMNAVSURFPAC i n 97.I then worked as Defense Contractor for 9 years at COMSPAWARSYSCOM in San Diego before moving back to Hilo, Hawaii  to take care of my mother-in-law who was 89 at the time. Still working.

    Looked up Jimmy Ward for face book but could not find you.Wife tried to set me up a face book but they would not let us have 2 sites. No problem,you can go to her site and call me Suzanne seelye. There are 2 sites but her site is the one with the orange cat for profile picture.Later.

    Glad to hear that the volcano is dormant.Not very nice of chief Dionne to say things about a well adjusted guy like you. I was running around on the web this morning and I saw that chief Dionne had retired. Them chevelles are awesome gotta be great having one to work on.A labor of love. Now about that witch doctor,i hope you put him in his place.A couple days the wife said I was going to have to get my own facebook page.Going to set one up tomorrow and will let you know what I go by.Catch ya later

    Gave up that heavy drinking years ago now I have a beer once in awhile,2 is my limit a lesson learned. Sure do remember Lt. Stills, how could you forget. I remember being a pollywog and then the better days doing the butt slapping. I still have my butt slapper wife beware.Sounds like you did pretty well for yourself staying in the same field as you were in.Sure sounds like a nice climate there but do you have to worry about the volcano ?

    This Navy veterans Page is really great and Dam proud to be a Navy Vet. Was hoping one of my boys would carry on the tradition. My dad was on the USS Guadalcanal and he was aboard 6-4-1944 when they captured  the German sub U-505 that is in the Chicago museum. If it wasn't for this site I never would have been able to get in touch with you. Thank-you all for making this possible.

    That had to be an awful shock on the body bouncing around on that hard flight deck. To bad about the back,i Know all about that. Repaired large punch presses and tool room machinery in a automotive stamping plant for 35 years.Back pretty bad now was able to retire at 58. Gotta tell ya sure is nice to be able to communate with an old friend I have not seen in 44 years. Temperature here 7 am 3.9 degrees f  There 58 degrees. Catch ya later.

    After all these years was not sure but I thought that was the storm you had a history with.As for Jumping out of a perfectly good copter guess you thought you could fly.HA HA!!!!  The only close call I had was when I had to go to the top of the island and climb the tube to the 4 antennas on narrow rails with a wire brush and clean them. Slipped just as I was hooking up safety belt,bout near shit my pants, awful jerk when belt came tight.

    Do you remember the time we went thru that big storm in the sea of japan? The waves were coming over the bow onto the flight deck and freezing. One of my best friends  was on one of the DD and said there were more sick sailors on that trip than you would find on a good night on the town in Sasebo. Said they were tying themselves in their  bunks so they would not fall out.

    never did go to teletype school,left Hornet in Washington may of1970. Dan Williams RM 1 and I and our familes drove back to mi. and then spent 2 years in reserves. still here in grand rapids mi. you taught me some repair and you were a good babysitter Semk also
