I just thought there should be a place anyone who served at any time at any command could go and throw out a thought, ask a question or gripe!

  • It must be a Pacific/West Coast thing! I swore I wouldn't fall for the hype and subject myself to the Flu shot. Then voila', 5 weeks sick as a dog through February with the flu! But, I still ain't gettin no shot! Give em, hell ya! Get em, no way! That's one of the things I miss about being a Corpsman! hehehe The series of thick goo (Penecillin) we had to give those poor souls that couldn't resist the "siren's"call was not pleasant or comfortable! A good ol' stab right in the old Gluteus Maximus!

  • I didn't get to avoid the shot while in the Navy, but after that, no f...g way.  Even the VA can't get me to take the shot.  I haven't had the flu since my last shot in 69. I was sick the whole trip back from West Pac, miss Hawaii, now I live here. Go figure

  • The records showed I never was in the Navy, then when I questioned that, they found the records but a lot of things were missing.  Got double shots too. But the flu shot, damn I was out for the count. In boot camp got it, went to sickbay via 4 guys who carried me as I was out cold with a fever of 103.5 and after the long weekend, I was sent to a shrink who said I was home sick.

  • I NEVER got sick in the Navy.  I do believe it was because my med records got sent to WESPAC ahead of me and I had to get a whole new set, including shots, before I left to go over there.  NOTHING quite like EFFICIENCY in our government records people!

I seemed to always get a double-dose of crap for some reason...

  • Saw one guy scream like a baby as he held on to the pipes, Thought surely they would break.  Never caught anything other than after the flu shot. Then I got the flu big time.  Usually 2 weeks worth and it was not worth it.

  • I remember hearing a few guys in the head screaming as they took a piss.  I was pretty lucky...NEVER caught any of that stuff.  I don't know whether to be glad or  upset because I missed out on something "special"....

  • We had one guy on the Annapolis, that caught the syph in Singapore, he was not allowed to go home, I often wondered how he explained that to his wife.

Hell of a guy, but always was in Sick bay after port.. Never saw the cups, and I had my own cup for Coffee

  • Jim I often wondered what they did with the coffee cups that guys in the Yokosuka VD ward soaked their Johnson in. Did they go back to the mess Hall? One buddy said he couldn't go back to the states until he was cured of something they weren't sure what he had.

  • I remember being in Sick bay after a trip to the PI,  Had my knee wrapped up good and was doing some cold water soaking.  Knee problems just got worse from there but we were out to sea for about three days when the line would grow and they would line up all of the guys that had "issues" Bend over guys grab the rail and smack went the needle in the arse.  Lucky me, never caught anything except the crud on my toenails from the Rivers I would end up in.

I'm wondering if we can use this forum and not have people get lost!

I have been informed by our CO, Mr Karr that these forums may work a little better than the "comments" section. So, I am going to try an experiment and see if we can do some house cleaning in this command! Excuse me! Sorry, I meant swab the deck!Somehow the comments have reversed themselves and the most recent comments show up at the end instead of the beginning. We have to be supportive of Doug these days as the site seems to be experiencing a growth spurt, which is good!
