  • got my share of ASBESTOS !! Every time the 5''/.38 or the 40mm AA guns went off,TONS of that NASTY STUFF came down on the bed clothing on our racks,foot lockers,our heads,and everywhere else...We slept in it,swallowed it,breathed it in the air.Those damn fine fibrous particles were EVERYWHERE! No one escaped it,including a former CO on my last tin can,the uss Basilone DD 824,who was reported to have passed from exposure from it.   Go figure..........

  • Thanks David. Yes, good books and I did read both of them some time ago but thanks for the heads up. And Tommy.. thankfully I was a RM3 and later RM2 the couple of times I hit the transit barracks on TI. Did have stand a couple of mid watches though.
  • Welcome to this site Herb. I can.t say I like to see on a set of orders "FFT T.I Calif. don't know what they may have you doing (cleaning the head ect.) I was home ported NSC Subic P.I. 65-67 spended most of our time in country Vietnam ( good duty P.I. for 3 weeks}. I was born in Redding Cailf moved from there when I was 15 to Gridley Ca joined the Navy when I was 17 few days ago Well take care Tom Wallin BMC USN Ret. P,S have joined the CPO group yet ?
