    I was in the CZ from Nov 4 1964 thru Aug 25th 1967. I spit that time between Rodman and coco solo. Rode 26 Russian and cuban ships through the canal. Couple of friends that were down there with me are going back for the 2014 Carnival. My dad was through there last year and he said panama city has really changed.

    went thru the canal on USS Waccamaw ao-109 enroute to Bremerton Washington in 1964

    I was on USS wainwright DLG - 28 in 1967 on the way to nam Denis A Grover BT 2

    was at rodman crossed the ditch in 68&69,can't believe the blue goose was still going strong in the 80"s

    The USS Claudjones DE1033 (My Third Ship) was homeported in Key West then in 1966 she was Homeport out of Pearl Harbor. I thought Key West was a Quaint little place. Years Later I took My family there and Boy did it change ! Street were now paved and it was very crowded

    i went through the cannel on the uss barnstable county lst 1197 in 1973 from long beach to little creek virginia

    STATIONED AT COCO SOLO AND RODMAN,CZ 6/56/5/59 US NAVY,ABOARD USS JASPER,OUR LITTLE JEWEL-MANY TRIPS THRU CANAL -SUPERB DUTY STATION AND WONDERFUL COUNTRY.

    U.S.S. Frank Cable - Nov 1979 Sailing from Seattle (Pre-Com) to Charleston,SC
    We caught some beautiful fish @ daybreak off the fantail.
    The Shah of Iran was on an island close by dying from cancer and so we were locked and loaded for the whole run thru.
    Awesome trip!

    Hit Canal SEPT. 1984- long story= tell later-USS Wm. H. Standley cg-32. crazy USN way to Centel Americia! for a farmboy from Texas!!!

Points of interest in the Canal Zone

Military pictures I was stationed in the canal zone back in 1967>1970 at the COCO SOLO Naval Station (Atlantic side)  which was suport for a Naval Security Group Activity named Galate Island.   There are a bunch of older pictures at the above link .I'll dig out some other links to the mess that place has become in the near future and add them as we go.
