Glad to be aboard. Now that I have some extra time I can fill in the gaps. My first ship was the USS James E Kyes DD787 after a wespac and a tour on the gun line I received orders to the best duty I ever had -USS New Jersey BB62. I then got out but went back in six months later and was ordered to go in country and went to the USS Krishna ARL38. I never retired from the navy but did retire from the National Guard. I knew the Truxton as I worked at PSNS as it was known then.
Glad to be aboard. I try to make all my ships reunions as I can. Served aboard the USS Orleck DD-886 two years Westpac from Longbeach-Yokosuka. The Galloping Gray Ghost as she was known was top gun off the Nam. Spent two of the best years of my life with a great bunch of Officers and Enlisted men that I've ever met. I was 1st off prior to our return to Conus. Sent to Coronado for training (Swift) and then Cam Ranh Bay. I was a Radarman but because I knew M-Code I did sometime in the radio shack in Cam Ranh. I was pretty tight with 1st class radioman Mimms and did some what they called secret stuff with Mimms , covert missions etc. All in all I would do it all over again. I'm a retired Cop now and live the retitred life out of Chama, New Mexico.
Thanks. I spent last 5 years as 8405 although DD214 reads 8426 :) If I ever returned to active service I'd request the school what ever it is called now :)
Thanks very much. Glad to be amongst good people!

I was only there for a few months aboard the USS Fulton AS-11 before being sent to Bethesda Naval Hospital Hospital.
That was a MK48 and ADCAP facility, plus we had harpoons, TOTEM (test Tomahawk), SLIM Mines and a whole lot of small arms, munitions, and other assorted ordnance.
I had a good friend that was assigned there as the Marine Senior NCO - Gunnery Sargent Dunn. He made 1st Sargent and went to the Pacific Fleet as the Marine Liaison. His wife use to cut hair at the base barber shop.
I believe Smitty went to the L.Y. Spears when he left NSSF. I haven't heard hide nor hair of him since he left NSSF.
Sounds about right. I relieved Smitty on the Fulton as CMC when he went to have his back operated on in 80-81. Before that in 76 to 80 I was the Service Craft & Operations Officer for NSSF. I relieved a Cdr. Beers and was relieved by a Cdr. Joyce.
I had a lot of "strange & unique" experiences while assigned in SUBLANT billets from the mid 60's through "both" of my retirements. I retired in early 1980 and was called back to active duty in June for the needs of the Navy (as they say).
When we were at NSSF in the 82-84 time frame I was the Weapons Dept. Leading Chief when I retired.
thanks chief,
Thanks Chief, still learning how to get around on this thing or I would have answered sooner .
Thanks for the welcome Chief.
My navy career started in 1960 and ended in 1964. Came out as ET-2 which helped my civilian career with the old C&P Telephone Co. and AT&T.
Went to A and C school at Great Lakes, then went to Roosevelt Roads, PR. Great duty. Only spent a few months on a ship tied to pier at Norfolk, VA waiting for school (USS Tutuila ARG-4). Hope to find shipmates here.
