"I saw the decommissioning of the USS Nassau which my brother and I were stationed aboard together. We were never better friends and brothers than while on the Nassau. He also was the best corpsman that ever worked for me. We both were broken…"

Every one that did time in any military branch, from time to time misses it. For those of us that got to travel, we saw places that most people only dream about. An example was the 81-82 Westpac, we were selected to represent the US at the Battle of the Coral Sea Celebration down under. We got Brisbane, Hobart, Tasmania, the island kingdon of Tonga and Wellington, New Zealand. Nothing like getting rocked to sleep by the gentle sway of a cruiser at sea.
We all miss the sea duty part, you can take the sailor out of the Navy, you can not take the Navy out of the sailor. I saw pictures of the USS Truxtun CGN-35 when Puget Sound was tearing her apart. I spent almost 25% of my career on her (2 different tours 80-82 and 85-88) that is where I got my Surface Warfare qual.
