  • It just took me awhile ,Every now and then I do get lucky.

  • our volcano is dormant, but then that is what Chief Dionne said about me.. today we have liquid sunshine, but it will clear up is a bit and start to get warm.  Building a 68 Chevelle (almost like my 69 when I was in Long beach)  Cept this one has a V8 in it and a 4 speed tranny..hopefully this weekend we put the motor in and take the body off to fix the cancer all over it.  Kinda miss those days when we used to cruze around and not do much the drinking but the fun times we had.  I hardly drink and I see a witchdoctor at the VA for PTSD.  But other than that I am fine, Frantic, Insecure, Neurotic and emotional.

Talk at ya later, do you do facebook?  I am on there under Jimmy Ward.

  • It was pretty bad, came back on board the Hornet and went to sick bay and they gave me another bottle of aspirin.  We did have fun on liberty, that is for sure.  At least I think I remember having fun, came back a few times just a little drunk.. ok so maybe more than a little. Long Beach is just not the same anymore since they closed it. Perfect for me, Simi Valley was just an hour or so away.  Home cooking and party time.

Remember Lt. Stills?  When we went across the line, he was a pollywog and I never really liked the treatment some of us got during the first time, so I back away until I saw Lt. Stills on his knees on the Flight Deck.  Went down get the butt snapper and gave him a good one, then went to attention and saluted him.  Yup the next few weeks were kinda of bitch.  But I felt good.  I went to work at the phone factory working on TTY's then to GDC and became a Sr. Field Engineer and Temp Supervisor and tech support.  I did well and now reside 1800 feet in the air under a volcano on Maui, Avg Temp 78 degrees and no snow..

  • Been up that stick too, Made a quick retreat cuz I heard a noise come from the stack and all I could think of they going to blow stacks.. Came down in a shot..  Think it turned out to be my stomach..  Seriously, that copter ride was the worst.  We were hitting the storm and I flew out, copter engine quit and dropped, hit the deck and bounces and the motor caught again, by that time the Mail and I were both flat on the deck.  Back has been screwed up ever since.  I remember my Sony Tape recorder on the sonic cleaner and I was making tapes for a lot of people.  Had an old record player and would get the records and copy to the tape.  Whole different ball game now..

  • Hell yes, I remember it because I was on the Sheldon for TTY work during that storm and then Highlined back two days later.  Never did get sea sick, but there were a lot of beds filled with sick sailors.  Do you remember when I was flying out to Cam Ranh and the Copter went up and dropped like a rock throwing the mail and myself out of it?  Hell of a ride that one was, then the LCDR told me to get back on it.  I wanted to go to sick bay and he gave me a bottle of aspirin and said we have no one else to send, have a good trip. Yikes same copter... made it and was glad when we touched ground

  • I remember the cruise, and when we came home.  How I got stuck with duty on the first day back and my family on the docks.  Chief Dionne always love to stick me with duty first day in port.  I got 5 minutes with my family and back on the ship.  Funny the things you remember.  I asked to go to OCS and they just laughed, so I left..  But we did have some good times.  Younger days for sure.

  • Yes the room but a bit tight.  But the sonic cleaner was great for sleeping when duty was upon us.  I think I remember teaching you about Teletype and how to repair them.  And there it is.  Yes You and your wife took off for a night on the town and Bill Semk and I watched your kids.  The webs are clearing.  Now I remember!  had to access the Hard drive, PJ Haws was in there a lot too..  RM1 Haws..Ah the days have flown by so fast.  Nice to hear from you, wondered if you got to teletype school..

  • Welcome aboard shipmate, May you have Fair Winds and Following Seas!

    Thank you for your service.

    Semper Fortis!

  • hi All, new to this type of thing but I will figure it out. Was on USS Hornet CVS 12 from 1966-1970 with James Ward. I seen he was on navy veterans so I joined to be able to say howdy from an old shipmate from CR Division. Thank--You for letting me come aboard.
