  • Glad to hear you are getting it under control.  I have type 2 myself all though I keep it under control with half a pill a day and no sugar.  The trouble is almost everything has sugar in it.   I need to watch the fat and cholesterol too.  If it has no fat, it is full of sugar and if it has no sugar it is full of fat.  And then there is the Salt....
  • Hi David: Glad you made it with your diabetes episode. I to have type 2 diabetes and know just what you mean when you have problems with it. I to have been close to that zip lock bag but have come back and am glad that I have. Take care and stay away from the sweets. I enjoy reading your sea storys.

  • Welcome back Dave.  Where you been?
  • Anne  I was on the Ajax in the early sixty's , when some one would

ask me or one of my buddies what kind of work we did when they saw the

Molders insignia we would say that we were the captains caddy

  • Been a long time since I've been on here- catching up on all the comments!

First- a story that I think you'll all appreciate more than my family....

My son was singing with a group for the Truman kids Christmas party last year. Part of the trip was a tour of the carrier... cool... so there's some PO1 air something or other and I mentioned being a molder. He had no clue what it was... not too surprising... SO- there was a Chief with more grey hair than I have- who had been around for most of the event. When we got back I said- well- surely YOU know what a molder is! He stops... tips his head... thinks for a bit... "That's one of those OLD TIMEY rates- isn't it?"  Right........ thanks.........

Dozier.... not sure if it is the same one- the one I knew had red hair and quite the southern accent. I did get the impression he'd never worked with a woman before though... so maybe not the same one. I've found more former friends- but I still wonder about:

ML1 MacMillian (probably misspelled that...) he retired somewhere around 90 back to Texas. He was on the Ajax, Dixie, and tons of other places.

MLC Werner- instructor while I was in A school- used to bike to work from somewhere near Mexico. Triceps as big as my calves... During the physical test for school he decided that I needed to demonstrate the pouring bit- with him. Worse than pouring- never gets lighter with the metal cool in the crucible- and we had to pretend it was real- no turbulence! As not everyone even passed the test I had a little more cred with our class sexist pig... who ended up in my group.. but that's another story entirely!

ML2 Montgomery.. everyone called him Monty

And more names I can't remember! Sima San Diego MLs from the late 80s early 90s

Posablly seeing about starting up a navy molders museum?

I know they dismissed our rate back in 1997. I would hope there are enough of us left to possably  get together and see about creating a museum somewhere  here in the states to preserve our long history and heritage that we all have shared as Molders. Any of you out there please give me a response if you read this Discussion.                                      Thanks.
