  • Sure was Aldo. 1983-1986. Re-wrote/Revised three Tech Manuals. PM 3 and 2, PMC and Fireman.
  • George: Were you ever stationed at the Naval Education Program Development Center, Pens. Fl?
  • Another Molder that lives around me is Joe Worth. He retired an MLCS. We both made senior chief at the same time same command. It was real unusual to have two MLCS's on the same ship. Probably why my detailer called and told me it was time to leave the Simom Lake after 7 years.
  • I knew MLC Howard, Lund and Gottlob. The other molders had been replaced by ML1 Anderson, Ken Dilli, Artie Cabrerra. Randy Simpson, Juan Aguillon, Kelly MacIntire & Dave Mathias. Pete Strzyzewski got there after I did and we also picked up Bob Applegate in route. There was another guy that was only there a very short time. He got killed in a motorcycle wreck. My memory gets a little foggy after all these years.
  • I just got home and pulled out the cruise book. Jan-Aug 1974. Here are some names from the cruise book. You may recognize some. MLC Howard, ML2 Audette, ML3 Darland, ML2 Dawkins, MLFN Gottlob, MLFN Lund, PM3 Ramos, PM1 Read, PMFN Sparks, PM3 Walch and PMFA Watson. There was also a HT3 Greg Peterson. I mention him because we became good friends and I have lost touch with him. I think he is omewhere in CA. I know he made the 1975 cruise.
  • The 75 WESPAC was the one where the Fat Sam broke down on July 4th and we had to go back to Pearl for a couple days for repairs.
  • Craig, it was probably 1974 as I think about it. But we probably did cross paths. I have a cruise book somewhere and will dig it out. I really enjoyed my tour at DATC. Did more pattern wotk there than anywhere else. We also did a fair amount on the Gompers. But, when I hit SUBLANT it seemed all they wanted was plaques and more plaques.
  • George, Sounds like we should know each other better. I was in the foundry on the Gompers for the 75 WESPAC and then transferred to DATCFMAGPAC foundry.
There are a couple other guys that were on the Gompers with us that made the same WESPAC. You can talk with them on the Gompers link.
  • I am new to your forum, but, reading through the past post I thought I would chime in. Sorry for bringing up some old discussions from past post, but a couple names did jump out. Wendall Holmes for one. He is living in Kingsland GA and I just talked with him today. He retired from a company we both work for about 6 months ago. I have a few pics I will post soon. He is no longer the skinny guy that some of you remember. I first ran into Molder Holmes on the Simon Lake. Not sure the date but somewhere in the late 70s or early 80s.I was a PM1 running the foundry and he checked into the command in a UA status, busted from 1st to 2nd. He kept his act clean and we got him reinstated a year later. He became an electrician when he retired frim the Navy. The other name I recognized was Charlie Whitesides. I was stationed at Patternshop at 32nd St. DATCFMAGPAC. That is what they called it in 1975/76 timeframe. He was in charge of the Patternshop at the timeand for some reason had a real dislike for the molders at that time. I thought he was a PMC, but, I could be wrong. I blame all of my mistakes on age these days. Anyway when we had shop training (usually watching Victory At Sea) he would not allow the Molders to join us. As for me I went through PMA school in 1973. I was already a 2nd class. I "SCORE" converted from TM2. PM1 Turner was one of the instructors. What a guy. He could carve like no one I knew or have known since. After PM A school I went to the Gompers. One West Pac (1975). Anyone know a PMCM Cochran? I say PMCM because he refused to me called MLCM. After the Gompers I went to ML C school and then to 32nd St Patternshop. Finding this site and finding some names I remembered was nice. Especially when I don't remember names that well anyway. Names heck, when I leave a room I sometimes forget why. More later and I will try and drag out my Molder C school pics as well as others I may have.
  • Big al glad you are doing better enjoy life Shipmate!!

Posablly seeing about starting up a navy molders museum?

I know they dismissed our rate back in 1997. I would hope there are enough of us left to possably  get together and see about creating a museum somewhere  here in the states to preserve our long history and heritage that we all have shared as Molders. Any of you out there please give me a response if you read this Discussion.                                      Thanks.
