You may have seen the Greenwich Bay or the Valcor or the Duxbury Bay (all AVP's) as they were painted white to refelct heat in the Persian Gulf where we rotated to as Flag ship for the Middle east forces.. that was up until 1966 or 67 when they scrapped the plan.
  • 1960-62 USS Donner LSD-20, TAD Comphiblant during Cuban Missile, TAD Comphibtralant, USS Raleigh LPD-1 was in Little Creek
    on occasion.
  • I went to school there in 93 while USS Lasalle was in drydock.
  • Was stationed at NAB twice. My first command was FLTCORGRU-2 from 81-83, and then at COMPHIBGRU-2 from 2000-03 as the Equal Opportunity Advisor on staff to several admirals.
  • Last two years of navy life was aboard the USS Barnstable County [LST-1197] home ported at Little Creek, Va. I spent a lot of hours at different on base schools when the Barn was in port. Kinda strange but my best inport base.
