I was up in the com center the "Z" man relieved Adm. Veth. , they sent me tad to the drafting/graphics shop to do the briefing for communications for the change of command.
I have always been an illustrator/engineer, Commander Heenan asked me to stay in graphics, because their only illustrator's tour and enlistment was up. So, I yes, and my mos changed from RM to RM-DM. Captain Fink headed up the com center at the time and he wasn't to happy. It was good though. I did get to travel in country a little bit,
I helped one of the communications Chiefs set up the MARS station in Saigon, Cam-Ran bay a a few other places. .
We may well have, I worked in the converted horse stable right next to the post office.
I have recently spoke with the Lt. that was basically our immediate supervisor. Funny
things was, he came from a town 10 miles away from where I lived in upstate New York.
I have trying to find some kind of patch from the command. Only one I have seen was the
COMNAVFORV communications patch. I don't know if you were there at the time, but as you entered our shop there was a plaque on he wall of "Saigon Warrior Ribbons", that I
made up as a joke. I spent my year at the Dai-Nam hotel just a block down from the Plaza hotel on Tra-Houng-Doa.
