John - I wandered/wondered onto your post on navyvets.com . You must have a superb memory. I can't remember you, but I was in that whale boat with you! Looks like you've had a full and wonderful life. Me too. Been blessed. Blue Jackets Choir was an amazing experience. I almost didn't volunteer for the BJC when the Company Chief asked if there were any "song birds" in the company. But, I figured I could sing good enough to get into this "deal", so what-the-heck, I raised my hand. Am I glad I did!
I think you are in Colorado? I'm down here in Texas, living the good life about 20 miles from where I was born, close to Austin, Texas. Been married 47 years, 2 kiddos and 5 granddaughters. With 5 granddaughters, oh the drama! Next week, I'm gonna go to San Diego to a softball tournament. While there, I hope I can access Nimitz and the training center. I'd like to be able to stand on the Preble grinder and reminisce. Hope I can access all that area. I'll let you know what happened and how things look there. All the best to you. Life is good!
found him. Oh my God, Jeef!!! Yep, Jeff Loew is alive and kicking, Girard, Ohio. He and I have been doing some catch up, and I think we've covered most of the fun we had. Are you sure you have your separation date right? it says January 1975. I didn't come aboard until August of 1976. Did you forget to leave? Jeff might have been easy to find (thanks to my niece and her Blackberry) but try searching for OS2 Joe Miller. Jeez, there must be ten thousand Joe Millers in California alone. Joe was from Milpitas, so I thought I'd start there.
I wonder what ever became of Pigpen, Gedunk, Jeff Lowe and Fang? I'll also never forget CWO Chuck Schneider and his white gloves. I suppose Buzz Sawyer is dead by now. Buzz and I became pretty good friends, although it took a while. Bro' Brennenstall hung around for a while, then convinced me that becoming the PMS petty officer had it's advantages. He was right. I got to help Buzz run the slush fund too. Great to hear from you. I'm going to start searching for Jeff Lowe.
