  • Some trivia I thought you would enjoy...anyone recognize themselves in the picture? How about them SPATS!
  • July (HOT) 1967 Our squad of the Choir was chosen to be the last precision whale boat team trained at NTC SanDiego. Our first shipp a reinactment of Coronado's landing from the 3 masted Barkentine "the Swift of Ipswitch" out of Santa Barbara. Later when in the fleet when asked how long we had been in the Navy we could always say"So long that my 1st ship was a 3 masted barkentine"
  • You said that you were there from February 1970 to February 1972. I was at Ft. Allen from May, 1970 to December, 1971.
  • You may of left just before I arrived Ft Allen. I see that my school ended in the first week of February and I then had two weeks leave before I went to Puerto Rico. I must of got there near the end of Feb. So I was there from Feb 1970 to Feb 1972. I believe I was in watch section 4, but not to sure of that.
  • You are so right. I remember that he drilled us in our music very meticulous. I was hoping to try out for the Navy Choir, but when I got my assignment to RM "A" School I changed my mind. I am glad that I did. My career in the Navy helped me secure the job that I have held for the last 30 years. I work in the ITS Department at Baylor University in Waco, Tx.
  • Yes i do ! It was Dr Williams.
  • Howard,
Do you remember the director's name. It slips my mind right now. The BJ Choir was a fun unit. We got liberty every weekend. If we were in uniform ( most of us were) and we at a eating establishment we usually would do a few numbers. The Music Union got whiff of that and we had to stop that. We sang the National Anthem at several Charger football games. We also made several tapes of the anthem that we used over and over by TV stations when they were signing off at Midnight. You hardly see that any more. I swear that I have heard several of the tapes that we did in my area of the country.

BJC Feb 1968

Greetings all.  I entered San Diego boot camp the last week of Jan 1968.  I moved into the BLJ they had not long retgurned from tge Hollywood trip where they recorded the record.  Does anyone have a copy of that?  I would so love to hear it again.  My copy went away many years ago.  Searched YouTube but no luck.  Those were special times.  Not only out voices but our style of marching with the "lean back" turns.  I became the educational PO and will never forget my office with the hidden floor…

new to this group

Glad we called it a choir back then... truly was ! I was in BJC in April/May 1969 ... Trying to find any recording of our voices from that time frame or in general from the 1960's or early 70's ... Somehow the little vinyl recording we got got misplaced over the years. I truly loved being part of that choir more than anything I have ever done since. I dont remember much of the specifics but I do remember my recruit company commander chewing me out for auditioning and being accepted ... He was a…

bluejacket choir 1967

I saw the photo that John Vaclav posted and it really looked familiar.  Then I saw the date.I also graduated boot in Sept 67 but was in section 4, I believe one week behind John.  Anyway,am adding my graduation picture. In Johns picture, the front row, the man to the right of the tall guy in the middle, I am sure was themilitary rcpo Mitchell from Kansas.  Second row man in the middle, was that Brockhouse?  Andthe second row far right is Gary Bible.  He was a real good friend from Texas.   Hard…

Just haveing some flash backs as I had Googled maps of the base and see that it is still there and under the Army control now, or National Guard. Don't know if you remember me or not, but if you were on a different watch…
