  • while onboard uss talbot county lst 1153, our homeport away from little creek was rodman naval station, on the pacific side of the canal.
    there was another "t" at the coco solo side, usually the churchill county
    pacific side was much better. tranisted the canal a number of times, both ways. loved panama
  • Was aborad the good ship USS Arneb (AKA-56) on the way to Deep Freeze 63
  • Transited the Panama Canal in April 1966 enroute to Westpac from homeport of Davisville, RI on the USS Mazama AE-9.. I was throttleman, I don't recall how many bell I answered, but it was a lot !
  • Did it on the mighty Mazama on our 1966 West Pac cruise.

Points of interest in the Canal Zone

Military pictures I was stationed in the canal zone back in 1967>1970 at the COCO SOLO Naval Station (Atlantic side)  which was suport for a Naval Security Group Activity named Galate Island.   There are a bunch of older pictures at the above link .I'll dig out some other links to the mess that place has become in the near future and add them as we go.
