  • Ok I just remembered something taking exam for senior cheif
PM Cheif goes to SeniorCheif ML ,I just remember that he went from PM to ML
  • you must be. A PM does not become a ML till MLCS.
  • Well thats odd Cheif ML Butner was a patternmaker 1st class when he took the exam passed and was given the Chief ML rating ,he did not like
learning the foundry skills not that he got on the bench ,, so am I off my nut ?
  • No he is a PMC. When he becomes a senior chief he is a molder.
  • Correct me if I'm wrong ,when a 1st class patternmaker take the exam for chief and passes he becomes a chief molder right ? the Charilie Whitsides ,that I knew of was kind of short and stocky it could be the same guy
  • Does anybody remember Sebastin -Stretch- ML3 , Robert McClain ML3,
or Dombeck ML3 from the Delta ?Kenndy ML3 USS Amphion
  • David I keep reading through the comments and if I remember correctly Charlie Whitesides was a patternmaker when I was on the Ajax , , and I heard the name Denbow before but I can't place him or Danny Brown
my instructor in class -B- school in July -Sept of 68 was Bershires not sure of the spelling , there were were two chief in my class one was Kirkland can't remember the other one . Have you ever heard of Chief Butner this guy was wild when drunk
  • David, you know that 180 pound guy. It was Grantham. He jumped off a sand bin right in the middle of Dutch's back for a joke. The Joke (and bruises) were on him.
  • I knew a couple of those guys.. ML2 Dutch Holland was in my shop on the Simon lake in Charleston, SC in 70. He was quite the impressive guy. Saw him pick up a 180 pound man with one hand and throw him across the shop and bounce him off a wall. It was self defense.
ML1 Andy Anderson was in charge of the shop on the Gompers when I transferred there about '74. Made 2 WESPACs with him. He was a good man to work for, also.

for some minor infraction, anyway the guy was kicked outof the Navy
I was stationed on the USS Amphion after I got out of class B molders school Cheif Allen was not around too often I the foundry was great I like petro bonded sand , got use to it quick on the Delta . , I made 1st class in 70 and was sent to the USS Bryce Canyon AD-36 at Pearl Harbor ,Ha.
the foundry there had resistor furnances , I requested Induction furnances and we got em and did the shop almost like the Amphion

Posablly seeing about starting up a navy molders museum?

I know they dismissed our rate back in 1997. I would hope there are enough of us left to possably  get together and see about creating a museum somewhere  here in the states to preserve our long history and heritage that we all have shared as Molders. Any of you out there please give me a response if you read this Discussion.                                      Thanks.
