  • I was stationed in VA-85 from 1977 to 1980, I was an AMHC in Airframes
  • Hey guys...Im not sure if anybody remembers me or not...I worked in the PR shop with Smitty, johnny tyson ,chris leblanc and chuck lathrop...I was on the FID and at oceana from late 1978 until mid 1982 with VA-85 I lived just outside of base and rode a Black 72 sportster. The guys I ran with were hillbilly Steve Grogan, Roy Blaylock, Dave Prater...and of coarse Johnny Tyson.  I had a lot of good times on the FID and burnt a lot of brain cells. If anybody remembers me ,feel free to comment. I will post a few pictures as soon as my daughter shows me how..LOL.
  • Anyone know where Hoffman, originally from Rolla, MO is?  He's the guy with the mint '55 chevy that was in Va-85 on the '70-71 med cruise
  • Marvin,

I was told Zap and his wife was at the Forrestal reunion last year in Va Beach.  So if you know anyone who is a current member of the Forrestal Association, that may be a way to contact him.  Lanning was a "friend" on military.com who I had sent a message to regarding the reunion.  I'm not so sure he got my message.  Nevertheless, I'm continuing my efforts contacting former VA-85 personnel.

  • Marvin, I wish you could find him for the reunion too, as he was with us in '72 in the powerplants shop as an ADJ-2. Good guy who was alot of fun.Guess he stayed in as a lifer if he was still there in '81. Have pictures of him and there's a candid picture of him in the '72 cruise book also.
  • Does anyone anything about Dennis "Buckeye" Lanning?  He was in Power Plants in 1981. Where is Skipper "Zap", lost track of him after he left Chief of Naval Personnel.
  • Doug, I'm guessing your best bet is to contact the VA for assistance.  Hopefully they can help, but if your visits are not documented in the files you already have, I wouldn't keep your hopes up.
  • Hope someone will know the answer to this question. I had need to visit sick bay on USS Constellation while in VA85 in 1969. I have a copy of my Personnel file and medical files but nothing showing visits to Conny doctors. Any ideas??

Does anyone remember Larry Fisher from AO shop in 69 and 70? Know where he is???

  • Rest in Peace Wally.....never forgotten
  • For the guys that remember Wally Lajoie I was doing some searching for some more guys from the line found he died in 96 at age 38 no details only he was buried in a national cemetary in colorado
