USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) was an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, the lead ship of her class, and the first to be commissioned after the end of World War II.

  • brought her out of the yards in 1970. Just back from duty on swift boats. WHAT A CHANGE.
  • I was stationed on the MIDWAY from 31 December 1976 - 4 April 1978 in V-4 Division.
  • I was stationed on the Midway from 1985 - 1988. I spent time in V-2 Division Arresting Gear Chief , CPO mess caterer, and back to V-2 Division. I am looking for any V-2 Maintance Officer that was on any ship arround 1972 - 1975 and remembers using asbestos cloth in pouring sockets. I need someone to help me prove we used asbestos to the VA.   • I was stationed on the USS Midway from Feb 1980-Jan of 1982. My first command once I left Intelligence Specialist "A" school. I worked in CVIC or OZ division. Great time and great shipmates.

  • My father, Bill Havens, was on the Midway from 1957 to 1959. He was Senior Chief Machinist's Mate until his appointment as a Warrent Officer in 1959.

1957-1960

I was stationed aboard the Mighty Midway from 1957-1960 and worked in the office of "G" Division. My off duty job consisted of being a Disc Jockey on station KMID from 2000-2200 every night at sea. My program was 'Eddies Tune Shop'.Still in contact with about 50 shipmates and have had 4-reuinions since the Midway became a museum in San Diego. Two of the reunions were in San Diego and we were able to go aboard each time.We couldn't believe how small the hatches were and how steep the ladders…

Background

I served on the USS Midway CVA 41 From 8-57 to 8-60 SA out bootcamp.I was in 3rd Div then N div,1st,S-2 and 2nd, Divisons . I was BMSN at was discharged, Left the navy for short stay the reenlisted Retired 1977 as BMC.
