  • Yes definitely true David!!! Well said!!

  • And I wouldn't change a thing, cept maybe one or two nights that I do not remember very well..  Ah the life of a Sailor..  I was told I had a really good time until the SP showed up.  Wish I could remember it all.. maybe better I don't.  Happy Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the Naval Family I have.  God Bless

  • Yes, the Navy "Family" is quite large, and many of us do not know each other personally, and yet we all went through pretty much the same thing as far as Recruit Training and sea duty.  We all had our basic differences as far as job skills and that sort of thing.  But the ships were what we lived and worked on, in or with.  We all had many of the same ports of call and saw and did a lot of the same things together.

Such is the life of a Naval Sailor.

  • Thanks Tom, and to all a great Thanksgiving. we open our doors to a few who can't and don't have a place to go..  Generally becomes a party.. And may God Bless all of you.

  • Thanks Thomas,

Most of us who served spent one or more Thanksgivings away from family. So my family is one thing I am thankful for.  I am also thankful that we live in a country where we can celebrate Thanksgiving.    Your sentiments about the group is right on target.  I have not found anyone from my Boot camp days yet.  But I have found some new friends most of whom I will never meet in person.  Being able to share old memories with people who have had the same or very similar experiences is a good thing.

Hope your sermon on Sunday goes well.  And I hope your and your family have a good Thanksgiving.

  • SPECIAL THANKS

    FOR THE NTC GROUP

I am sitting in front of my computer thinking of what I should be doing this
Sunday for a sermon. Nothing came to mind but the thought that Thursday is Thanksgiving day. Well that is a given and I already had planned for that so I looked into my heart and pulled out a wonderful thought of all of you in the NTC group.

I am not sure of all of you and your status as to, family, spouses, children, and home. Are you alone, visiting friends, family or organizations, to celebrate the holiday. One thing I am sure of is that we in the NTC group share something in mind soul and heart that the Lord has allowed us to become friends through this organization and share it with others.

I do hope all who follow the NTC group and their friends and family have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.

    Reverend

    Tom

  • Good point David.  And after I roasted them, our CC would have made only me eat them.  To teach me a lesson that you don't bring marshmallows to Fire Fighting class.  And also because, they won't taste good anyway.

And I would have been like- "Choke! Gag!  These marshmallows taste horrible!"

     I then regurgitated.

On the bus ride back to RTC, I stared out the window and thought about what I had learned in Fire Fighting that day.

And was grateful that it was only a one day training event.

I would trash the additional marshmallows I had back at the barracks.

  • Nah...Marshmallows taste WORSE than the oil smoke after you roast them in that crap.  The way to do a 'mallow in the FOUNDRY is to have them "flash roasted" in the oil fired furnaces after a heat has been poured.  Just put one on a weld rod and stick it in the furnace for less than a second and it is ON FIRE.  Weenies take a bit longer.  About three or four seconds does one of those....That white hot furnace works it's magic quickly.

  • I liked firefighting, for the most part because it was a chance to get away from NTC for a day!
