  • BOOT CAMP SAN DIEGO, CA JULY 1974

Had long hair and the Barber asked me, " Do you want to keep your side burns"? and I told him yes please!

So he gave them to me and put them in my hands!

  • He was there when I went to Boot Camp in 1974

  • Capt French was the CO when I was there in 1986.

  • Wow, I am so glad that I found this site. I was in RTC San Diego as a member of Company 86-184. My Company Commander was PCC J. Rogers. I wonder whatever happened to him?

  • Capt. French was the CO when I was there in '75 Co. 904. He was a freind of my dad's and I think they went to Command and General Staff School in Ft. Levenworth together.

  • Hey Jerry, I remember Capt. French.  He was the CO while I was there on my second tour of duty at RTC San Diego, boot camp being the first.  I was a red roper (Company Commander), Division Adjutant and senior enlisted in the Recruit Affairs Office (located under the Command Master Chief's Office).  I made Master Chief there then came back 3  1/2 years later as the Command Master Chief when we shut her down in 1994.  Last recruits were out of there before the holidays in 1993.

  • Thought some of you might enjoy this song...Ya I know it's not about Boot Camp but heck it's an Sailing song.

  • I remember Capt. Bivins' name....at the time, of course, we

had to know the entire chain of command, but Capt. Bivins

is the only one I remember. I also remember watching for

officers and P.O.s involved in recruit training that we had to

salute (AND call "attention on deck!" for). Sometimes you

had to, and sometimes you didn't, it was a bit nerve-wracking.

I sympathize with the guy who shouted "There's one!", LoL.

  • Johnny

I would not have been surprised if the whole company was given the refresher course. It always seem to happen in our company.  Learned the true meaning of "the grinder!"

  • Richard..that's funny. I thought I heard them all. The Legal Office was down the hall from my office. It had two long sitting benches at the main entrance. It was not unusual to regularly see four or five recruits sitting on each bench who were being processed for a fraudulent enlistment. If I recall correctly they processed out about 30 a week.
