  • I remember training next to many Iranian students that we were supporting at the time under the Shah. I always took exception to the fact that the Iranian students wore dress whites with gold shoulder boards and ropes and we had only our drab uniforms. AFUNP school was quite an experience. Didn't like it...lol. I had many great and fun times with the locals of Millington. What great and friendly people they are. I hated to leave that base because I made so many friends in a short time. I used to hitch rides to the Raleigh Springs mall and on one trip late at night with no rides available back from the mall, happened across a KKK meeting in the middle of nowhere, and in the middle of the night. THAT scared the heck outta me!...LOL. Until I realized I had nothing to worry about. MAN how far we have come since then, thank goodness. But it sure scared the heck out of a 19 year old first time away from home. Talk about "Welcome to the WORLD"!
  • ASE "M" School Starting in July of 1977. Had an unforgettable experience with Senior Chief Dollar if anyone remembers him......lol. But the LT. above him saved my butt! Senior Chief Dollar had NO sense of humor. LOL
  • AME 'A' school 1973, AME 'C7' school 1979
  • AMH "A" school Aug-Nov 1973.
  • After boot camp in San Diego, I went to Millington in Sep 1979, and went through the usual AFUN, BE&E, AV'A', and AFTA schools. I left there about same time that Ken started. I remember that we were trained alongside members of Kuwait's military - long before Irag invaded them.
  • Does anyone have photos of the F4U Corsairs that were used to train AD's in the A School during the 50's?
  • I went to ams (a) school from july to oct 1973
  • After Boot camp, got sent to Millington, Sep 1980. Went thru Aviation Fund.s, BE&E, AV"A", and AFTA. Almost flunked AFTA, I failed the final exam, so had to go before an oral review board. I explained I had been under stress lately ( got news that grandmother had heart problems, and great grandmother had to be hospitalized) and that affected my ability to study for the test, but that I knew the material, and could prove it. So they tested me orally on the material, and I passed!
  • NATTC Memphis was my last duty station, retired there in 89. Got there in 85 - Air Traffic School. Was the course supervisor for Radar Approach Control then instructor and course supervisor for Facility Management, Airspace Management, and Terminal Enroute Procedures.
  • I started out going to BE&E school but the self paced computer said that I was taking to long. LOL After bailing out of the school, I was taking the last test when I was boarded, I had to stick around for a couple of months waiting on orders. They came in, sending me to Iceland. I think I pissed someone off. LOL

NATTC Memphis tour of duty not once, but twice.

Hello Shipmates.  I attended AFUNP school and aviation electronics A school after San Diego boot camp the summer of 1970.  I recall the thousands of sailors and marines there and settling into a routine of duty and school.  It was odd as I didn't ask for this schooling, but somehow ended up in aviation and electronics.  I soon found my niche, and I guess the Navy somehow knew my destiny.  I enjoyed the challenge and the less restrictive life at NATTC.  I still recall that getting off base…

My time in the Navy.

Hello fellow airmen and shipmates. Went thru basic at San Diego & arrived at Memphis NATTC in late summer of 1966. I was assigned to MOC company (maint, operational, clerical). Worked in the admin building delivering in house mail all over the north and south bases.                                                    Those of us in MOC stayed in the old WW2 style barracks & ate at the Marine chow hall. While there I witnessed the old PX building burning to the ground. never had to stand…
