West Memphis

OK guys..now for serious stuff.......

How many will admit to an evening enjoying the honky tonks in West Memphis with the chicken fence enclosed stages and Elvis wanna bes?  Lovely evenings they were...with a required visit to a bootlegger before hoppin a cab across the river.  Seems I recall a few sidewalk stewardesses also.

  • Remember West Memphis well, used to go to a BYOB place, can't remember name. Woke up one morning holding up a pole in the parking lot.

  • Hi Jim,   when I was in Nattc, West Memphis was a restricted area and we didn't go there.  Also Elvis was about 9 years

old at the time and we didn't know him.   Bob  ARM3/c

    • I remember going to the Cotton Club in West Memphis, this was in 1957.  I remember a lot of guys selling blood and then going to the dog track in West Memphis.

  • Well, I remember being at NTTC when Elvis died. I was in Personnel. None of our civilian employees showed up that morning. Couldn't figure out why, when somebody told me "the King died". Who? "Elvis" he said. We had over 100 sailors and Marines to check onto base and process out. Never was so ticked.
