"My last cruise was an Around-the-World cruise onboard USS Coral Sea (CV-43). Departed NAS Alameda and visited Subic Bay, Singapore, Pattya Beach Thailand, Hong Kong; transited the Suez; then visited Naples (twice) and Cannes France. Spent time in…"
"I was in VAQ-134 onboard USS Forrestal from Jan to Sep 1975. I worked the CAG LOX crew during the workups and nite check in my squadron for the cruise. I really wasn't impressed with the Med, but that could be because I was a 7th Fleet sailor. Big…"
"For years I've wanted to write a book about carrier airwing exploits but I've never figured out how to go about it. I know that you need to set up an outline of what you want to write about and a cast of characters. I've sat in front of my 'puter…"
"I was in boot camp in Oct 1972, Co. 72-410. I remember running around on the Recruit during my time there. I made the BMC mad and he kicked me out of the Marlinspike Seamanship because I knew what he was teaching and then some. Boy Scouts and Sea…"
"When I went through VAQ-129 in 1973 it was known as Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 129. Jay Moore was the AME-1 in charge of the Av-Equip shop. Good man, excellent training. We were trained on the EA-6B Limcap Prowlers...the first incarnation…"
"This brings back fond memories...my 100 missions over the river, drinking dalawa Pepsi and lumpa, rice and fish, making the girls in the bar wonder how an American could stand to eat Filipino food. Paid many a peso for a ride back from Subic City on…"
"I served on the Coral Maru with VA-196 MIlestones (CVW-14) for the 79-80 cruise, 81-82 cruise, and 83 world cruise. I also enjoyed Phattaya Beach on new years 81 and Cannes France 4th of July 83. Great fireworks show."
Hi, Paul! I see you want to write a book. OK, the way I write is to write as if you were telling a friend about what happened and try and include exciting details in the work so it isn't a "sleeper". Read my blog stories and see what I'm talking about. The book I wrote was about my life with a canoe and included parts about our little canoe jaunt down the Willamette River while we were in the Sea Explorers. I am trying to get my three years worth of work into print and on the book stores shelves now.
One of the best ways to start, if you find staring at the computer hard, is to get a small digital recorder and just tell stories! Helps if you are at happy hour and have a swig of beer or two, if you are so inclined :-) Then...that digital file can be converted to a word document. Some people are better at verbal story telling.
But get your thoughts down. Rarely do I write an outline. But a good story does have a pattern. Sounds silly but must have a strong catchy beginning. Struggle. Then super end! Feel free to contact me by email for more ideas. :-)
I washed out of co. 444 with bilateral pnemonia...stayed at Balboa Naval Hospital till the following Easter...Wow what a experience that was...Do you remember the dallas cowboy company that thought they were hot stuff...Ended up at Ams A school in Memphis where i met my bride that i still have...I served in a training command in Corpus Christi Tx got out and attended drill meetings at Millington to finish 20 years...Im sceduled to start my Navy pension in 2012...In the meantime i served as a civilian employee at the Memphis defense plant that closed down in 1997 with BRAC..I now work for Northwest Airlines (Delta) as a baggage handler...Hope this is my last gig...Thanks for the return email

The following message is from Doug:
1. Be sure to upload an image of yourself. You can add your image on your Footlocker.
2. Click the Commands tab and search for your commands so that you can join them and add them to your page! This is how other shipmates will find you.
3. Invite all your shipmates!
4. Don't hesitate to add an event or a reunion to the Events tab!
5. We've also started Commands for each State. Be sure to join or add your own state!
I give out gifts often for those folks who participate on Navy Vets! Be sure to start up a blog post or two and tell us all about your time in the Navy!
