Guys (me included back then) would suck down two to three cigarettes in about 10 minutes! Didn't know how many days it might be before the CC allowed another "smoke and coke". It was always a reward, and we didn't earn too many of them!
Yes Michael, I certainly know what you mean. It's been a long long time for both of us. I noticed "Stick" is in here, and he was stationed there in security after basic I believe. I have spoken some with him about it before but don't recall all the details of his experience in regards to my inquiry. Would like to see some photos of the base and the buildings back then. I am not sure, but I don't think they let us take many photos during basic.
Oh yes, I remember a Camp Moffet now. I think you are right Michael. Thanks, and I remember those wooden barracks we were in when we first arrived. They were tinder boxes and we were told that they could catch fire very easily and would burn rapidly. We had fire watches as I recall.
Also, I just remembered a Camp Dewey?
Is anyone familiar with the staff training command center at Great Lakes in 1969?
I was a permanent service week and occupied a clerical position there (typing company command manual revisions). It was in a building with a gymnasium and there was a tunnel I went back and forth through each day between the barracks which were concrete (2-3 stories I believe), with clothes lines in a courtyard in the middle. Was it Camp Barry, Porter, or something else?
Please anybody it's driving me nuts trying to remember...
Just missed Michael. I was in CO 258 in 1962.
