  • Rode a couple of PBR's up the delta once or twice, The brown water Navy was a bunch of great sailors.  courage and duty first!

  • I can honestly say that the one thing I wanted more than anything in the Navy, they never gave to me because I could not copy code fast enough. That was Rivron boat duty. I volunteered three times and was shot down three times. After a few years in the Navy and serving with guys that were on Rivron, I sure am glad I never got that wish.

  • Yes, I remember the sign through bleary eyes after the bus ride from Los Angeles to San Diego.  Made it though boot camp with only one scar and the flu. but was glad to be going to BEEP school.  I knew most of what they taught so it was simple, Radio A school was good and we had fun learning the code (Standing watch in the barracks at night would lead to someone to sit up and start talking in Morse code) Then off to War.. That is where we found out it was not like the movies, Naïve we were and we were in the REAL Navy now. Little bit of Jungle training (but guys I am on a ship) and then in country with the Marines for a bit.  I can say now that I really did love the Navy, Bad times and Good, Proud to have served and thankful that I made it out alive.

  • sure did.I hated it too. Funny story, I quit school to join the Navy cause I was sick of school. The Navy sent me to school for 2 yrs. My luck.

  • Gary did Radiomen have to go through BEEP school before RM A school?

  • Looking back now on that sign, it seems sort of silly but at the time, it was very scary.

  • Remember the sign? What they didn't tell you when you arrived was written between the lines!

  • anyone from Drill Company 944, 1977?

  • Near the end of Boot, we were all given our orders where we were going to go after Boot.  I was going to "ML-A School".

I asked my CC BT-1 Sam Deaton what "ML-A School" was.

He said he didn't know. Never heard of it before.

I asked him a year or so back if he found out what  "Molder" was.  He said, "Yes, I was assigned to a Destroyer Tender and found out about Molders."

I still E-Mail with him now.

My name is Phil Mercuri. I was assigned to company 130 and was Squad Leader #4. Is there anyone out there who was part of my company. Our Flag Bearer's name was Hillary Wong. Unfortunately, I do not remember anyone else. Though I do believe there was on other individual named Ace Goodman. I could be wrong.
