  • This is a comment on the photo posted of the USS Belknap.  Just thought I would put this out there, since I was there for that little 'event' and I seldom see proper credit given for the images.

    All of the photos (at least that I have ever seen) were taken by EM1 Dennis Eaves, aboard the Claude V Ricketts (DDG-5).  He was our Career Counselor and a pretty decent amateur photographer.  Eaves took all his photos 'unofficially', but the Navy appropriated them from him and they became the only historical photo record of the collision and firefighting efforts.

    Heck, I even remember what he was shooting with - a Minolta SR-T 101 or 102!  I know that because I used to hang out around the Career Counselors office and pick Eaves' brain about cameras and photography!

    yeh i made the lex tour seems like it was just a few of us troubleshooters aboard. i made part of a med cruise after the west pac and got tad'ed to va 174 for awhile i met the ship when it came back into mayport. good to hear from ya. i started a command on here for va 105 ya need to join up.

    when were you in va-105 your photo looks familar for some reason.i was a flight deck troubleshooter and final checker in the early 70's and on the west pac.worked in the airframes shop.
