  • Doug, I happened to find this site by accident and it's nice someone is doing this. I've tried looking for guys I served with before and always came up empty. I was on active duty from 1957 to 1960 at Pax River and worked in a "High Priority" warehouse issueing top secret parts for the newest jet fighters. My wife and I lived on Solomons Island and I had to take that old PT boat home every night. It was great duty there and I probably should have stayed. I was hoping there might be a way to find some of these guys, but have had trouble locating them. Thanks for this site. I'll be checking back often. Jim
  • Doug looking over the photos section I notice a lot of old sailts are shellbacks.I've been acrossed 3 times down under in 62 and twice during the Vetnam Era that could be group by its self. Tom
  • I was there in 1958 during a flareup, but don't remember the details.
  • thanks for the welcome and for what you are doing i only hope my other ship mates find this website even though i was navy the only thing ican say that even begins to describe the good work your doing is(semper-fi) latin for"always faithful" no wander the jar heads use it for their motto
  • Hey Douglas,
I was wondering if you would be interested in starting a Marine Vets website with me. I did find one for sale but have figured out a way to still use the same name. Please get back to as soon as you can. Mahalo.
  • Mike here, again, Doug. Forgot to ask a question that's very important to me. I noticed in going through the process of signing up that there were no Marine Corps Insignias listed. I served 6 years with various Marine outfits and would like to register there as well and I'm sure that there are a great many Navy Corpsmen who served with the Marines, when I did, that would be appreciative also.

Any heads up on info relating to that would be most welcome.

    Thanks,

    'Doc' Paaverud
  • I appreciate the thanks Doug, but I was just doin' what most of us was doin' - just keeping our heads down, our butts up, and waitin' for transfer or retirement.

  • Thanks for the welcome, Douglas, glad to be here! I wasn't actually in Lebanon, just part of the Multinational Peacekeeping Force over there when my squadron deployed on USS Forrestal in '82 and then with USS John F. Kennedy in '83-84. But there were some good men, sailors and marines, who lost their lives over there, and I tried to do my part, as did we all. Thanks for the site , Douglas. I'm gonna like it here!
  • Hello Douglas, I signed up for your site for a couple reasons. My dad, who I didn't know that well, was in the Navy on the USS Yorktown. My half brother, I was told, joined the Navy and may still be on active duty. I have been searching all over the internet to find him. His name is Daniel Edward Hill. Our father's name, when he was in the service, was Donald Edward Coyle, he later adopted the surname Hill (that's a long story). Daniel has a brother named Thomas Hill. Thomas was not in the military to my knowledge. If there is anyway to find my brothers through the Navy I would be very appreciative of that information. We all grew up in Michigan and I have exhausted the methods at my disposal there. At least for now unless something comes up. Thank you for your time and consideration.
