I visited Newport a few years back and it has morphed completely.
It was the centre of my world for almost three years.
I was there from 58/62 last year in supply you might have taken my place
when I got out. Can't remember the CPO name but he was a good guy.
I served at USN Hospital Newport RI from March 66 to Nov 66 spent five months working the newborn nursery nine months after the massive blackout on the east coast! We had so many babies in the nursery that CSU pumped O2 in 24/7 to keep the C02 levels acceptable. Naturally we had a spinal meningitis outbreak in the nursery then. Left there and went to Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division. Also the whole time I was there the bridge was being built. You could hear those pile drivers 24/7. Worked with Lois Chorey a civilian RN. Also LtJg Ethel Griffith. Night turn what a trip. 21 days no day off.
I was stationed @ the hospital 1977 - 78. I worked in the Primary Care clinic & health records.
Was stationed with CBU-408 1987 - 1990 and got married at the chapel across the street from the hospital. Still married and living in NC
