  • I'm freaked out. After spending 18 yrs as army brat and 8 yrs in nav I see a talk about saluting our flag! Now I know why my ww2 vet keep colors flying 24/7. They didn't listen in boot. Flag is retired at sunset and raised at dawn. This from a Dental Tech who is 100%SC 80-88
  • How about this instance? Honourably retired Veteran, at a public gathering, working and wearing a required uniform with headset and cover. Uncover or remain covered while saluting the Flag during the National Anthem?

Additionally, unless they've changed since I was on AD, Naval personnel did not salute while uncovered. That was an Army thing.
  • Thank you.
  • Yes it is permissible and proper for a veteran in civies to salute during the National Anthem. Last year this was authorized. Hats OFF.
I have long complained about the lack of respect shown to our flag.

So called sports heroes not removing hats or placing hand over heart and chewing gum or tobacco is totally wrong. Not a good way to influence our children.
  • I was attending my grandsons football game today and during the playing of the national anthem a man in front of me saluting. I've heard that veterns in civies may salute. Is this true and if so what about hats? On or off.

All the Reserve VR squadrons flew the C-118 (DC-6) before transitioning to the C-9 Skymaster.
  • Thanks Mike. I see by your history that you were stationed in Rota when VP64 was there. I made 3 cruises to Rota and had a great time. Is Willow Grove still open?
  • You're right John, VR-52 was homeported at the Grove.
