Any Navy Veteran who served from 2-Sept.-1945 to 26-Dec-1991, prevented World War III for 46 years. We must never forget those who did pay the Ultimate price with their lives. USS Scorpion SSN-589, and many others. I Salute your Bravery.....

  • David,

LMAO too late my colon is busy processing all the red meat I'm not supposed to eat because of current trends.

James, time CONUS is limited so I'm sure I won't be lucky to see if I can catch the flick. I think I can get most of it on youtube
  • I have 7 days in May on youtube. Wish I could find it playing on tv. Good stuff.
  • Watch the movie "Fail Safe" the same premise is discussed about preserving financial records after the bomb is dropped. If you haven't seen it I won't spoil the movie.

  • Todd, Brian: Check out AMERICAN COLD WAR VETERANS - COLD WAR CASUALTIES (Google)
When I was on active duty in the 60's we lost one man overboard in the night and one killed himself with a razor. I think it was the Roosevelt that lost several men when a wave sweep through the hanger deck. There were also some near missis with the Russians that didn't turn into fights in the Black Sea in 65.
  • Don't know of any Surface vessels we lost with all hands, there was the Pueblo and the ship in the middle east and of course Gary Powers in the spyplane. Scorpion and Thresher are the only 2 nuclear subs we have ever lost.
  • I met a Vietnam Vet (Marine) down in the keys while snorkeling, who had a friend (his sisters boyfriend) who was on the Thresher when she went down on Eternal Patrol. We have to be thankful that other than Korea and Vietnam, we were fortunate during the Cold War that we didn't lose more than we did. I only know of 2 subs we lost, Scorpion and Thresher. Does anyone know of any surface vessels that were lost with all hands? Also, does it bother anyone else when someone says "we won the cold war without firing a shot?"
  • May we hold in reverence all those on Eternal Patrol....and uphold the principles and American values that they so gave their life for.
