  • I spent like two days in the transient barracks, absolutely no privacy. The racks were all lined up in rows. The guy next to me was an older guy, I am guessing a 2nd or 1st class. I never saw him in uniform, just in his skivvies and trust me that was no treat. He would drink so much and pass out, wet the bed, take the sheets off, take a shower and put clean skivvies on etc. After two nights of that I was ready to get out of there, on the 3rd day at muster the petty officer in charge told me they were going to have me work somewhere and I politely informed him that I was to catch a plane to Pearl. I was never so happy to get out of a place. This was Sep or Oct 77.

  • Was stationed at T.I. from Dec., '64 to Feb., '66. Attended ETA & ET class C schools before assignment to the Fleet.
  • The only enjoyable time I had at TI was when 2 of us were sent to polish the floor in the waves mess hall, when we were done the waves said stay a while and gave us cake and ice cream, then after noon chow they asked for us back for the rest of the day. Went on liberty in Frisco and a marine took us to their club call the Marine Memorial which was great. Was hit on every place I went by my self.

  • I was in transit at TI two  times once in 1966 on my way to Subic Bay and when I returned In 1968 to get discharged. I got to see San Fran for two weeks each time.

  • Every time I was there mess cooking was my job once I was baggier at the commissary Officer's wife line no tips for Enlisted men. .

  • Jerald, I was RM3 in CommCenter winter of 70. Only there fore awhile and then on to Moroco. Remember being questioned when a message with my routing initials showed up in the newspaper concerning the US Marshals taking the indians off of the prison island (Alcatraz- sp). Had great experiences esp. with Wave I met and fell for. Alas, heart broken when we had to take our separate paths......
  • I was an RM1 with Commander Western Sea Frontier (COMWESTSEAFRON) 1968-1970. Working down in the basement. Lots of 12 on and 12 off while the Russian subs were being tracked.

I am looking for a patch or plaque for COMWESTSEAFRON), but have not been able to find one.

Any body know where I can find one? Or at least a good photo of one I have a couple of sources that make patches and might have some made.

  • I was put on guard duty at the TI brig while waiting for orders in 1954.

I fell asleep on the mid watch, Luckily i wasn't caught or i would probably ended up inside instead of outside.

  • i was "brig runner",for 2 weeks,while awaiting discharge in 1969

  • I attended ET 'A' at TI '72. Enjoyed the location and spent my off duty time either in SF or exploring the area.

Treasure Island Beer Machines

I was processed out of the Navy there in Jan 1972.  Stayed in a transit barracks for a week or so while waiting to be discharged.  When I first arrived I kind of just hung around base a day or so until I joined a few guys who were cool and we went downtown SF looking for hippie chicks.  But one evening while staying on base I wandered into the barracks lounge to watch TV or something.  And to my surprise I saw a beer dispensing machine in there.  I couldn't believe it.  A beer machine in a…
