I was there when one of the Helo Ships had a boiler explosion. It killed a few guysand they came outoard of us. I think it was the Iwo Jima. We feed their crew and or our crew at the same time.That was where I got my NAM. We hung out at a hotel that had a swimming pool on the top deck with a bar (of course). One our off time we made good use of the hotel. Had a bar down stairs.And wasclose to the Gold Suk.

Deployed to the gulf during operation Ernest Will with SBU-12 in support of protecting the Kuwaiti oil tankers that had been reflagged as US in order for us to provide convoy support as well as interdiction and area denial operations against the Iranians during the Iran-Iraq war.
Did a tour there on the USS John F. Kennedy in '82 and the USS Long Beach in '84.
Oct. 81 to Oct. 82 aboard the USS Coronado, AGF-11. E-4 when I got there, E-5 when I left. Ported at Um Qasr, Iraq as we were "friends" with Iraq in those days. Also left the Gulf, ported in Mogadishu, Somalia and crossed the line going to Kenya in August of 82.
I didn't like the Persion Gulf in 1974. And I haven't changed my mind in 38 years. My hat goes off to all Persion Excursioners
