Come on in Shipmates. Have a seat in the First Class Lounge. We'll play a little Acey-Deuce and swap sea stories. As always, you have front of the line previleges on the Mess Decks.

  •  i started as an SA deck seaman on the USS Durham LKA114, then got slected for TD "A" school. made rate every time i took the test, until E6. they were doing away with the rate and held a select few of us until our EAOS. that held me for 3 more years before i cross rated to AX and made first class on the first time.

i spent a tour as a P3C inflight tech w/ VP49. then went to HSL42. i was hurt in a helo crash and placed om limited duty. took chiefs exan made the board and was selected. then along came the first round of force reductions and i was medically discharged 30 days before my advancement date.

worked out good though, i was hired by the FAA as soon as i left the service 50% disiblity and ten years after that they medically retired again as a GS12 and i haven't worked in fifteen years.

  • m,

I remember the TraDevMen. I changed rate from AO to AW right around the time the TDs became AWs. Coincidentally, while we were cleaning out our storage room last night, I came across the gabardine dress blues I retired in, gold crow, hash marks, and all. Never knew a sailor from Alaska before, but I have a buddy from Alaska who flew Air Force Phantoms in 'Nam.

  • This is just a general comment. However after browsing so many sites that i cant see right, it is starting to seem that i am the only person from Alaska that joined the NAVY.

Also my hash marks are gold, but two of the rates i wore on my sleeves no longer are around (TD & AX). i hope that some of you still remember them....

  • Made BM1 at DESRON 33 San Diego California 1995

  • As a ADR1 I was an flight engineer on the EC-121 "Connie" and accumulated almost 5000 hours flying the pacific barrier, Patuxent River NAS, and VietNam.

  • Amnesiac looks correct to me:) Been over 20 years since I have had to use those terms.

  • Yeah, liquid lunch was like an amnesiac (sp?). As a Corpsman you can spell check my medical term right Chief?
Problem was, being in NOLA, and at my young age, and single, we also, often followed it with a liquid dinner! Surprised I got enough nutrition and didn't end up an alcoholic!!! Also probably why these days I might have only 4-5 drinks a year on special occasions.
  • I remember doing those liquid lunches a few times, remember alot more of the solid lunches :)

  • Made first (EN1) on shore duty in New Orleans, which was my last station, so I never got any of the fleet privileges such as front of the line, separate mess, etc.
I do not remember if there was even a mess hall at the NOLA support activity! I think we went to Bourbon Street and drank our lunch every day.
  • Howdy, I was a HM1 from 79 to 83. I was a memeber of the First Class Mess on the USS Truxtun 80-82, during the 81-82 West Pac we spent a week or so on Diego Garcia where the mess spent our off duty time at the Seabees First Class Livingroom (NMBC 62) I still have my drink ticket, if I ever get back to DG I got 4 drinks coming.
