Did two Westpac tours on USS Coontz DLG-9. 68-69 and 70
I did three WestPacs on the USS Truxtun CGN-35. The 81-82 cruise was 8 or 9 months long, we got selected to represent the US at the Battle of the Coral Sea celebration down under. The rest of the battle group held lotteries for someone to be TAD to the Truxtun, by the time we left the second port or maybe the third port all of the TADers had been restricted to the ship. The ports were Brisbane, Hobart, and island kingdom - Tonga and Wellington, New Zealand. Great liberty! The 86 cruise we were assigned to all four fleets, we did the standart transit from San Diego via Pearl and on to Subic. Then into the IO, then Kadafi started running his mouth and the Enterprise, Arkansas and Truxtun took a trip thru the "ditch" and into the Med. All of a sudden Kadafi was silent! We had port calls in Toulon, France and Naples, Italy. We headed home via the Straights of Gibralter, down the west coast of Africa a three day stop in Perth and headed home via Pearl to pick up the "Tigers." The 88 cruise was non descript except for the fact that I earned my ESWS qualification.
Hey All! Did WestPac on the USS Long Beach CGN-9. Scored a shaft and ended up in Pearl for 3 weeks then on to Yokosuka in late Feb. of 84. Then we went to Inchon and FROZE to death! Then hit the P.I., then Perth! Loved Australia!

My first time in Yokosuka was in 1960 on the Uss McKean DDR784. I remember
seeing Jail House Rock at the EM club. Place was so full we had to stand outside and watch. In 1961, I received orders back there for shore duty and only stayed two days and they shipped me up the road to Naval Radio Receiving Fac. in Kami Seya where I stayed from 61-63 . Finally made RM2 before I got out of the Navy. I can't seem to find a way to get in touch with anyone from Kami...Would love some suggestions from you guys.
