  • I talked to Larry "Chooch" Sprouse yesterday. He's recovering from surgery. Get the clips & pins out next week.

  • was in va-85 from 1987 to 1990 worked in the line shack.

  • Hey Guys, Glad I found this I was with VA-85 from January 85 to August of 87. Worked Line and was AO. Did 85-86 Med IO and most of 87 Med. Great times and would be interested in any potential reunion.

  • Leonard - I have a picture of you and Rick Slatniske holding up a pair of skivvies that looks like someone took a dump in them.We laughed our asses off about that one.

  • Hi guys, I transferred into the squadron from VA42 sometime in 1970 after they returned to Oceana from Vietnam. Was in the line div the whole time I was in 85 as a plane captain. Was onboard Forrestal with the squadron for the 1971 Med cruise. Allready have seen a few names I recognize. A special shout out to Larry Kelly and Larry Cooper. Hiya guys! Larry K, the AQ chief Rudy that you are trying to remember was probably Rudy Winterrmute. I remember him as a 1st class, didn't know he made chief on the cruise, great guy.

  • Joined VA-85 In Jan 1987.  Left in Jun 1990 to go to MSCU New Orleans.  Did a cruise on the Saratoga and one on the America.  Hi to all VA-85 Sailors.  Was a YN1 at the time of my time with the squadron.

  • Mike Hazel: I was talking to Ray Franklin a week ago about VA 85 and our WestPac time and he brought up your name.  He worked in AIMD.  He lives in North Carolina now.  Do you remember Rick Hannah and TC Nipper, I think they worked in AIMD too? I worked in the AQ shop and on the flight deck when at sea,

  • How about the 1st class AQ, Rudy? I think he made chief on the first Forestall cruise. Don't remember his last name, but he was one smart guy.

  • I don't remember those techs.  Do you remember AQ Dana Burnham?

  • After only a couple weeks, another AQB, Pat Hoover & I went to MATC school and then straight TAD to AIMD on the America.  We didn't get to meet many VA-85 shipmates in the mean time.  We were assigned to Shop 1 and only had contact with those guys and the SACE shop guys.  Occasionally met some of the Line Crew guys when they had unusual black box problems.  The only other contact was when we all mustered at Sick Bay for shots.  At NAS Oceana between cruises, we were also TAD to VA-42's AIMD.   Did you know Tom Barry & Pete something, they were the senior MATC techs at the time?
