  • Sorry Al I just went back again and looked your right Bob Vanatta but then again all them seasonal aptments back then all looked the same
  • I guess all that smoke got some things mixed up. That pic I posted is of you and Bob Vanatta (aka Hard On) in my house on 85th street. Dave Combellick & I shared that place. Does that ring a bell?
  • Al I fjnnaly found my cruise books from the 78 cruise and now Im finally putting faces with names. What a tripback in time I was supprised to see you had a picture of me and Wally Lajoie in our apartment I thinkit was on 48th street in VaBeach after the cruise.
One thing I will never forget about that place is we went home on leave around xmastime and the place got broken into when we where gone. I had a 1977 triumph bonneville motorcycle good thing it waslocked up or it would have been gone I beleive wallys wreacked 67 camero sat in the yard then but anyway we called the va. beach police to come file a report well we waited they never showed so I dont remember who was there if it was you but we broke out the bong and were all smoked up when knock at the door and I opened the door and there they were the house all full of smoke. When they left they said dont do it again.Mitch
  • John, that was Bowie Md. but I don't remember many details of the trip.I think Hooper was with us and you guys met up with somebody and went on.Your right about that van,it broke down on the way back to Oceana and I spent the night in it.Woke up across the street from a junk yard and the guys there helped get it going.
That night with Smitty I remember hearing your head hit the rollbar as we were bouncing over those ruts.Of course the rest of us thought it was hilarious.Smitty rolled that Jeep in Alabama and sold it after that. It's truly a wonder nobody got hurt on those rides.Didn't some guy let you shoot a pistol that night,he couldn't known how drunk we were.

  • Smitty and his Jeep. I recall practically flying over some dunes in that Jeep. Although I'm not sure if I was with you two. John I also have a flight bag and a garment bag. Smitty said he was done sewing but pointed me to the bolt of that green nylon material and a box of runners and zippers, gave me a quick lesson and away I went. When I was done I think that's when I received the title as Omar the tailor. Needless to say, they're still in great shape and continue to accompany us on vacations.
  • Jim, its funny you should bring this up. About a month ago I was camping and went 4 wheeling with a friend for a few hrs. And one of the first things I thought of was that trip in Smitty's jeep. I remember going over the washboard section of ruts and small little hills, and my back kept slamming against the back tailgate. I was sure the adventure was going to cripple me. Speaking of Smitty, I still have one of the bags he made for me on the 78 med cruise. I also barely remember going to your parents house in that death trap of a van you had for a new years eve celebration. Was that in Bowie Md.??
  • HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL MY SHIPMATES...HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY..PEACE
  • John, remember going out in the Jax Beach area one night in Smitty's Jeep with a couple bottles of rum,I think Harv was with us. On the way in to the base we started picking up buddies that were walking. When we got to the gate there must have been 12 people in {sort of}that CJ5.The guard made most of them get off before we could go through.
  • That's it. You remember the name of that place? I guess you were there too. Who else?

Does anyone recall a tall AT in the early 80's? His name was Steve, but I can't recall his last name. Also, I'm trying to locate an AE, Joey Martinez, if anyone knows how to contact him. He was in VA85 in the late 70's- early 80's.Any help would be much appreciated.
