  • As for our good buddy Steve Downes, what a guy! Hey Steve, you remember traveling to Clayton's family farm in Ballsville Va? What a trip. I remember the Old Milwaukee and Stroh's flowing like a water supply line, not to mention the back seat urinal window. What a mess.... Trying to remember who all went. I know Pete and Cindy (and infant in tow), Fred and Kathy?, and me and Debbie and of course you and your Cindy. The girls were driving my yellow VW and we were in your brand new 1976 Nova getting s@#t faced. Closest I've ever been to a nudist colony. Skinny dipping in the Appomattox would've been much more fun had the girls joined us...ha ha....They were however fishing off the bank. I remember having Catfish for supper that night. Debbie caught a 5 pounder that fed us all....
  • Okay, I just have to join in on this....Didn't realize you guys were in the memory pages business...I've taken time to read all of the other 92 comments and I have a couple of additions. First of all, I am saddended at the passing of Bob Elsaesser. I really liked that guy. I really thought he came in before 77 though since I remember him very well. I got out in March of 77. I'll never forget his initiation. He was the maddest of any inductee to the line ever. It took 4 of us to immobilize him. Talk about a bull. Anyone remember that? Most initiations occurred aboard ship, but his was in Oceana. Grease was a-slingin' that day....

  • I've been thinking a lot about BB since I learned of his passing. He was genuinely a good guy who would probably do anything for you if he could. I remember moments when he would push the envelope but he always managed to back off when he knew the limits were reached. BB was pretty high strung at times, especially when something was on his mind. He was a real worry wart at times. On the other hand he could be really relaxed and typically laugh out loud when he knew something was pretty petty or as he said "BS." It's too bad he's not here to join in the camaraderie.
  • That is "sorry" to hear of Bob's passing! Fingers are not as fast as my thinking!
  • I truly enjoyed BB! He was a hoot to be around and I am to hear of his passing! You're right John, if you hear Bitching at the Pearly Gates, it will be Bob!
  • Harv, Janet wanted me to remind you that she is not "the wife". She also wanted you to know she still has your ice tea pitcher and spatulas.
  • When we're standing at the pearly gates, and all of a sudden you hear somebody bitching about anything and everything, you know who's there to greet you. Bitching Bob Elsaesser! Rest in peace brother.
