Fire Fighting Training was the scariest part of RTC for me. I wished I was anywhere else that day HA!
The compartment fire instructor seems to be at home in this chaos.
I should have brought marshmallows.
Hi Glenn,
One of my treasures is the pictures of the Drum and Bugle Corps that were taken there in '57. Have them on the wall in my computer room!
It was a great experience but just didn't last long enough! And, I will never forget how polished a group it was even though the personnel changed constantly.
Kenneth, I was in the Drum and Bugle Corps also, playing baritone bugle, about a year and a half after you, August of 1958. Our Commander at that time was Chief Travis Haley and our Assistant Company Commander was Musician First Class Jack Wood. As you did, we marched in a number of parades but the best was the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix. We were flown there for the weekend and played all over the fair grounds. Then went to Radar A school at Treasure Island and to sea on 5 destroyers and a heavy Cruiser. Always had a great time and will never forget my time in the RTC Drum and Bugle Corps.
I was in the Recruit Drum and Bugle Corps starting in January of 1957, 18 years old. Played snare drum and ended up as the Drum Sargent. Enjoyed ever bit of it. The Commander at the time was CSCG Fred Boswell. We marched in several parades including one up in Riverside. Then went to RM-A School there and went to sea with COMCARDIV-7 as a Radioman on carriers.....5 different ones in all!
44 years ago today I celebrated my 21st birthday in Boot Camp at San Diego. I was first in Company 646 then transferred over to Company 4007 Bluejackets Choir. One of the greatest experiences in my Naval Career..
My prayers are with your family and friends as with you Chief. The Lord is getting a good man!
Rest in peace Chief Barbee .
Sad to report David Lee Barbee passed away 8 Aug 2012
It will be a trip, but many things are the same with a splash of new.
