  • Co. 158 - Jul - Aug 1980

  • Company 950 formed Dec 1987

  • Boot camp here...company 434...1961....company commander was TM1 G.H. Mcguire.

  • I remember Mike Maloney - had several or numerous liquid lunches with him at the club. He worked on my 67 Camaro that I bought from Mike Gulledge several times. That master beast was that Vernon K. Doyle? I thought he was a senior chief. Speaking of this period of time, I saw a training film in 90 or 91, the person presenting the training was Capt. Voyles - I worked for him as a HA/HN - he was in charge of outpatient services.

  • I did just 3 months working in Outpatient Records at NNMC Bethesda.  I developed a huge sense of admiration for the civilian employees that worked there.  I met my first Admiral (MC) while working the morning shift checking out medical records.  He was very impressed with my handling of a senior officer's wife who insisted on cutting in line.  He was so impressed that he walked with me to meet my LPO HM2 Mike Maloney and my HMCM (nicknamed La Cocka Roach).  They both were more than happy to go along with the Admiral's suggestion that I take the rest of the day off.  Fond memory.

  • Just stepped in to will all a happy Fathers Day!, My father was a SeaBee During WWII, my younger brother served like me as a Radioman. Fair winds and Following Seas Shipmates.  All of had the experience of a life time and I for one treasure it.   Bad Days and Good.. Just gotta keep your head down!

  • Let me add my thanks to all who have served.  We all had different experiences just as we all had different expectations and enlisted under different circumstances.

Despite the occasional problem I really enjoyed my time in the  U. S. Navy.  To hear me gripe while I was in you would not have thought I was enjoying any part of my service.

I had two brothers who followed me by enlisting after I got out.  I wouldn't trade my days as a sailor for any other experience I could have had at that time.

The picking at each other just goes with being a part of the family and as long as we don't start getting nasty with it there is nothing wrong with that.

One thing I learned while serving my country is that the U. S. Navy is as diverse as the people that we served and still serve. And that especially while in and out of uniform we ought to respect everyone's right to express themselves within  the limits of decency.  After all wasn't that why most of us served?

Oh yes Happy Father's Day to each of you.

  • Happy Fathers Day to you too Bill. Lot of sailors in my family also. I read where you were on the Iowa. Sailing on a BB was always my dream, tried to get on the New Jersey when they brought it back during Viet Nam, didn't make it, ended up on the Essex instead. Oh well sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you.

  • Got to jump in there with Bill and wish all fathers a Happy Fathers Day! I thank the Lord I was able to be here today. Thanks all of you on this site for making it feel like "home." We all deserve it.

  • Happy Fathers days to all myship mates who are fathers, we carried on the tradition that was passed to us and we passed it on to our family.  I had five son who served at the same time, and three in the first Gulf War, a grandson who did three tours in Iraq, and grandson who's a Lt. in Navy Air, flying helocopters.  "God Bless the USA."
