  Hey Harold,  I was in Co 528 in 1967 so we graduated in the same battalion.  If you remember Bob Hope was in our graduation because his adopted son was in the Navy. You probably have the same memories I have especially the transition from the new barracks to the advanced side old barracks and wearing the white hat all the time except for the time at the fire training exercises. I do not remember if we wore the leggings for graduation but that would have been the only time.  I was an honor guard for a South American General visiting the base and we wore them there, and got in trouble for taking pictures of us in our dress blues for the first time. I started Boot Camp Sept 18th 1967.  Our bus driver took us to MCRD first in the middle of the night and the DI started yelling about get off my bus and get your feet on the red print.  Opened the orders and then started hollering for us to get back on the bus, you are all squids.   Was in Company 550, Sept. 26, 1967 till Dec. Was an APO1. Was there when Bob Hopes son was down the court yard from our company.

  Same here, ran oil field pipe in a machine shop , drank beer, got in a few fights, gave dear old Mom grey hair. Navy pretty much taught me to be a man.

     Just out of curiousity, did those of you who were active in high school sports such as football find boot camp a little easier to endure?

  GOOD POINT DAVID. Walmart greeters now stand inside the store away from the door and greet only those they feel like. A multi billion dollar company and they cannot afford to supply "like or monogrammed shirts," for their employees.It is like a contest to see which employee can wear the "most faded blue or most ragged blue shirt." 15 years ago I costed out uniforms for our store and to buy with logo 8.50 each. Probably 20.00 each now, but HUH?

  ?Retirement - I could always volunteer at the Air Force base hospital or I could bag groceries for tips at the commissary. Walmart already did away with my 1st choice of a job after retirement - being a "Wally World" greeter.

  That was not stepping on something hot - he was gas powered! The two guys smiling after leaving the gas chamber - they farted and the smell was better then the gas! I remember that special moment, going in the chamber, and taking off the mask and leaving crying like a baby - a year and a half later I got to do it all over again in Field Medical Service School. You would think that after tear gasing us in boot - that we would remember what it was like - just another way of wasting money and screwing with us!

  GREAT PHOTO'S JIM. AHH Yes, the gas chamber. Never smelled that again till I got married and my wife's Dad took off his shoes.Flies dropped off the ceiling and the dogs ran for cover. True story, bless his sole.

  Yes, lots of stock generic photos in the Anchor, but some of the guys sure look familiar in them. It must be something to do with the missing hair!

  Speaking of retirement, I haven't slowed down one iota since retiring in 2008. No pay but plenty of fun in helping to build and maintain a free flight (hang gliding/paragliding) park. Working for a golf course would be very similar.
