  • Other than 50 pounds, wrinkles, bi focals I haven't changed a bit, lol.

  • Man you look at these pictures you fellows post and "WHERE THE HELL DID TIME GO"? I am almost sure we wore the OD leggings into the old barracks side.

  • Bob, I guess my group must have been the last to wear the OD leggings. We only wore them with our dungarees and I don't remember if we wore them after we left primary training and went over the bridge. We all wore the white leggings of graduation day. I bet the OD leggings were probably WW2 vintage or so and probably got fazed out.

  • Guys, Checked my Anchor. We wore the OD leggings with our dungarees, didn't see any photos with on with our whites. The entire Brigade wore the White Leggings with our Dress Blues at Graduation. We started Boot on the 5th of April 1966. I'll try to post some photos if I can fiqure out this chromebook.

  • Have to comment on the leggings. We (1960) were issued the olive drab leggings in R&O and were required to wear them through out training. Do not remember getting white ones for graduation, only color bearers wore them at graduation.Graduated in dress blues.Hot Hot Hot in the SD sun.

  • Any company's have any real fun in boot camp, and get away with it? I remember two instances of impromptu fun my company experienced.

The first was the day our RCPO was marching us alongside the road around Bainbridge Court, the big grinder among the old barracks and office buildings. A car with a nice looking woman driving was headed our way so the RCPO gave us an eye's left order as she passed. I haven't the slightest idea who would do such a thing, but a few whistles and cat calls were directed her way. Of course it happened to be the wife of one of the big wigs on base, and she noted our company number. Needless to say we got busted that time and paid the price with three nights of PT.

The second happened back at our barracks in the evening after our company commander had called it a day. Our company, 745, was in the lower barracks and I think it was 746 that was on the second story above us.

I don't know how it started, but I think someone upstairs decided to dump a bucket of water out the window above our doorway. Of course we couldn't let them get away with that, so guys from our company carried buckets up the stairs to give them some payback. Water was flying everywhere for several minutes, and as quickly as the water war began, it came to an end when we realized the duty company commander would be making his rounds at 20:00. We hit the mops for a half hour drying out the decks, staircase, hallway and front steps, and it all looked dry and back to normal just minutes before the CC walked through. We held our breath until he finished inspecting both barracks. To everyone's surprise, we got away with it!

  • Daniel, that is really strange about the leggings. I followed you at the end of 66 and the only time we wore leggings was for graduation day. I looked at all the photos in the Anchor and see leggings here and there, but none of the actual photos of my company show us wearing them other than that one day in blues.

  • I was in Boot in April of 66. We wore Olive Drab Leggings everyday. White leggings for graduation.

  • Good evening Terry, I didn't know if anyone out there  had gone back that far. Didn't ever see Hope's son but do remember after one of our outing that the men in his company wasn't too happy because I guess they thought there was some favortism going on. On the legging question, the only person I remember was the RPO wearing them. We pretty well took care of everyone like when we would get shots and tried to hide the fact they weren't doing too well because we didn't want anyone to get set back so that everyone could graducate together. If anyone that went to RTC is reading this that went there in the 60's remembers the guys that endured 40-50. I was nearly 21 and couldn't believe it.
