  • does anyone else remember the term "GEDUNK"??? IT WAS WIDELY USED IN MY TIME.  NTC 1955 CO.0459 AND THEN RADIO SCHOOL.

  • Still have the ditty bag, it is in better shape than I am. I also have some clothe ties but most of my Navy stuff is missing. Still have the head squeezing watch cap and my Pea Coat, Blue Jacket manual. Some good memories here especially with memories while aboard the USS Recruit and wondering if I would ever see her or the grinder in the future. Never did understand the 'Smoking Lamp' routine.  I never smoked so it did not bother me.  There were smokers that could not wait to get to the 'lamp lit'. We had to pick up the barracks and all the tipped over racks and lockers first. (And find your dirty clothes stack somewhere at the other end of the barracks.)  Terry H-M2 Co 528-1967

  • Oh Johnny that's cold!..  True probably but cold!

  • I was there in 1985.  I don't remember them

  • Never got any chits (early '72)

Welcome to all the new members.

  • Alvin,

Glad to make connection with past shipmate. If you have googled Keyport you will see it is not as it was when we were stationed there. Most recently I saw a "Restaurant Impossible," show about a make over of a restaurant in Keyport. Well after my time. Remember Dabob bay and the call letters for Bangor "fisher fisher." Those were the days!

  • Co 402, fat finger error

  • Co 404 July 66, never saw a chit book.  But never passed an inspection either.  I would shave at 5 AM and by 8 I was a full 5 O'clock shadow.  CC kept in the barracks after the first two inspections.  He even watched me shave and check it out.  Looks good, then the Lt, told me to stand closer to the razor.  To this day I still have to shave twice a day if I go out, only this time it is gray not black.

  • Thomas, I was in Keyport from 1/61 to 12/61..I started out retrieving torpedos at Bangor before going to diving school.  When I left Keyport I was on the USS Greenlet ASR 10 as a driver before discharge..Its good to know there are still some able bodied shipmates left that was in Keyport..Take care
