Seems like what I was told years ago was that wearing the old Donald Duck hat along with your dress blues made you hard to see at night. I think over the years several sailors had been hit by cars while hitchhiking. Don't know if thats gospel but sounds reasonable to me.
Attention on deck! We are joined by a Captain that started in boot in San Diego in 66! Now, there's a CO that has definitely earned our respect!
Or with the United Nations Logo either
Let's just hope that with the way things are going that we don't see this soon!
I got mine with my sea bag. Sept 1962
Righlt....the Donald Duck Hat. I graduated from Boot in June 63, and we were issued one when we arrived. It was designed as the Dress Blue Hat. I much preferred the Dixie Cup.
Oh really? I never saw those either then. OK I stand corrected Opps!
Jerry, he was actually talking about the Donald Duck hat. The Dixie Cup survives even today.
Did you know that Ernie enlisted in the Navy in 1935 and was discharged after the war in 1945 as a Gunner's Mate 1st Class? God bless him, he is still alive and kicking today at 95!
Not really JL Here is a Photo of me on the USS Walbash when I was the Personal Photographer for this Actor. Can you guess who he is? See the Dixie Hat? That was the Uniform of the day for me then. Year? 1990
I was actually attached to the USS Prairie AD-15 and this was taken in Long Beach at the Naval Base down there.
