  I remember going to Camp Elliott and the machine guns. I also remember hanging my "piece" from the side of my bunk with clothes stops. I over looked a clothes stop on the deck during inspection when I had watch. I didn't like the taste of it at all. I wonder when they quit using them to hang clothes on the line. Remember which way the fly on our dungerees was to be facing?

  and after we graduated before we left san diego a bunch of us went toTJ...imagine a bunch of 18 year old kids in Tijuana

  Now I understand the gray hairs and receding hairline! I can't remember whether we left the base for fire fighting or not! I'm sure we did for the firing range. But, I also think we used chinsy little 22 caliber rounds!

  Carroll Canyon was the location of the firefighting instructional area...We all knew that we wouldn't leave without a good dowsing of H2O!

  Welcome to the San Diego RTC Thread, Mr. Baugher, and Mr. Philips....

  AND Mr. Abromaitis and Mr. Wooten....I remember that the highlight

  of firefighting was just getting off base. I also remember losing my breath

  fighting the compartment fire and coming closer to panicking than I

  should have.......

  I remember fire fighting school. 2 lines with the hoses ready to go into the fire. The guy on one side smiles and points his hose in the direction of the other line. We are sitting in the bleachers watching and nod our approval. They go into the building. When they come out the one line is soaked. We all start laughing. The instructor figures out what happened and ask us if we thought it was funny. Then he turns the hose on us. We were lucky that is all that happened.

  Company 594, October 1960.. Loved boot camp, first time out of my small hometown of Batesville, Arkansas, after bootcamp went to diving school in Keyport, Washington and then to the USS Greenlet ASR-10, learned things that helped me be successful in life.  Ahoy Mates

  joined ,think about last may first part of june (hazy memory after 50 years) remember company # 277 think about 9-13 weeks ( sombody let me know duration) remeber old barracks, tear gas room, fiting fire in training.
