Likewise on the distance! If I wasn't on the right coast, I'd be there too! I'm working on trying to help get the real thing sailing again(a real WW2 Destroyer Escort)!
The Neversail is now under the control of the NTC Foundation. They are responsible for maintaining the historical buildings as well. Last year they had a Sea Cadet group repaint her. They are at least trying to keep her looking ship shape! However, all I can find says they want to make a museum out of her. But, to date she is still unused.
When you think of how many of us out here have an attachment to that "vessel", there should be no problem getting enough interested. Even if many only included her on a vacation trip once in a while, there would be plenty of folks there most of the time! So, I think it is more than feasible!
As I said, I am going to call and see what is going on and what we can do!
It is history, our history and many others, maybe we can get them to make it a park and museum. Like I said, if I was still in San Diego, there would be plenty that could be done. Need to get several groups behind us on this. Maybe start with a state congressman?
Shame I am not still in San Diego. I used to go there all the time with the VFW and others to throw support for keeping NTC alive. Now in Hawaii, it is hard to find people I can motivate to move on this. I remember my time in boot very well, celebrated my 21st birthday there.. Woweee a coke and two hours of marching party...What do you need Jim to get something started. If I can I will help
