Read more…Lindsey,You are probably right, I think it was the sulfur smell to the boiled eggs. When we had troops aboard the chow was not great, the chow was great when in port and no troops aboard.

I don't know when they went back to the old style uniforms but, I had to wear those new ones in 1977. The first thing I did when I got to "A" school in Great Lakes, Ill., was to buy myself some real ones. Needless to say when I got to the Tincan I was on"USS Manley DD940", we all wore coveralls down in the hole, afterall we were Snipes and stayed kinda "Greasy" all the time.
