  • A site that alumni of San Diego might find interesting! Check out the book about NTC.

  • Thanks Larry and Jim. I have searched Ebay, to no luck though. Here is the kicker. I have been in a little bit of contact with a boot camp shipmate (one I even took to my parents house for Christmas dinner, since I lived about 100 miles away and he was from the East Coast). He lives back Esst now and has told me he would get the Anchor copied for me or send it so I can copy it and he, never did it and he has stopped answering my emails. Drives me crazy!
  • John, have you checked on Ebay? There is a bunch of "Anchors" on there for sale.
Larry, those of us that came before will not hold your youth against you!
  • Finally!! Someone who's about my age! Thanks John! I went to boot camp in San Diego in January, 1986. Company 005. Our company commander was BTC Fisher. After graduation I went across the base to NTC and went to DP "A" school. My kids look at my copy of "The Anchor" every now and then. They like to laugh at my pictures in it.
  • I am new to this group so I need some help. I graduated in late Dec '85 / early '86 from RTC / NTC San Diego. I was in Company 222. C.C. was P.O. Provancha (Sp?). Over the years I lost my "Anchor" book and would like to get a muster of role of who was in my class to search someone out who would have one that I could copy. I have been playing phone tag with a Dave German (Navy Personnel) back East regarding getting a copy of my muster role from my class. He wants my UIC. What I found was 30643, that is it. He says it does not show me. I am wondering if that is a generic UIC for the center and not my class (Co. 222). Any help would be great.
  • I was a Hospital Recruit in Company 561, formed in November, 1959. I think I enjoyed every minute of it except not being allowed to hit Tijuana during boot camp liberty. Our Company Commander was a Chief Machinist's Mate named Elijah J. Jones and a better recruit-pusher never existed. I'd love to hear from anyone who was in my Company.
  • I WAS IN COMPANY 083. FROM JAN 69-MARCH-69 WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE WHO WAS IN OUR COMPANY. OUR COMMANDER WAS NAMED WRIGHT. I HAVE A PICTURE OF OUR COMPANY WITH THE RTC FLAG AND SAN DEIGO . IT HANGS OVER MY WORK BENCH IN MY SHOP. I THINK ABOUT THOSE DAYS EVERYTIME I AM IN MY SHOP LOOKING AT THE PIC.
  • GOD BLESS RTC San Diego. My company was 225. About a year later they closed the base. I learned a lot there. I joined my first command with a whole lease on life and respect for the chain of command. Later on on getting new recruits at my new commands I found these recruits extremely lacking. I was always concerned at their LACK OF TRAINING. Which came from the other recruit commands that had not as of yet closed.
  • THANKS JIM, YEAH BOY I REMEMBER THE TDE1.. GLAD THEY LEFT IT.
  • No more Naval Training Center in San Diego! They gave it over to the city. Most of the buildings are now gone and have been replaced with housing. Some of the other buildings have been converted to retail stores. But, the USS Recruit (TDE-1) is still there and slated to be turned into a museum! If you go on Bing maps and use the "bird's eye" view, you can get a pretty good idea of the changes.
